End of an Era: East Hartford’s First Craft Brewery to Close Its Doors This Month

Paddle Creek Beer Company, East Hartford’s first craft brewery, has announced that it will close its doors for good on Saturday, September 28th, after four years of serving the local community.

The brewery made the announcement through a heartfelt Facebook post, expressing gratitude to its customers, friends, and everyone who supported them along the way.

Paddle Creek Beer Company was more than just a brewery. It was a place where friendships were forged, and the love of craft beer was shared.

From its inception in 2015, where countless hours were spent perfecting recipes in a garage, Paddle Creek grew into a beloved local establishment.

The brewery officially opened its doors on Main Street in East Hartford in August 2020, featuring a 7-barrel brew system, an indoor taproom, and an outdoor patio.

The launch was celebrated with three flagship beers: Citranade, Lawn Racer, and Hop Mower.

Despite its success in creating a welcoming atmosphere and producing quality beers, Paddle Creek Beer Company has decided to close its doors.

The owners expressed their sadness over the decision, stating, “Our mission was to create an atmosphere that was welcoming, produce beers that were enjoyable from the first sip to the last, and to build friendships with the people we met along this journey. From that perspective, we are proud of what we accomplished and hope that you felt welcome when you visited.”

When asked the reason for the closure, the brewery left a comment on its page saying, “Some have asked why and it’s a complex answer with some reasons being personal but largely we felt it was becoming too difficult to manage the stress level of running a business on top of our personal jobs and family responsibilities. We didn’t want this to affect our ability to supply the best possible product and experience to our customers so the difficult decision had to be made.”

The brewery will remain open during its normal hours until the final day and plans to host several events to give customers a chance to visit and say goodbye.

The owners are inviting patrons to join them in the coming weeks to share a beer and express their thanks for the support they have received over the years.

Paddle Creek Beer Company’s closure marks the end of an era for East Hartford, as the community bids farewell to its first craft brewery.

As the final pints are poured, the legacy of Paddle Creek will be remembered for its craftsmanship, camaraderie, and the joy it brought to its customers.

For those who wish to visit one last time, the brewery will be open during its usual hours until the final day on September 28th.

And for those who hope to enjoy the brewery’s beers after the closure, there’s a glimmer of hope.

“Our head brewer still loves to make beer so who knows what the future holds- perhaps some collaborations with another brewery to keep a brand alive or the passing on of recipes to someone that wants to take over the brewery,” the company commented. “The future always has endless possibilities.”
