Connecticut is Cooking Up Something Big for National Pizza Day

Connecticut is doubling down on its claim as the Pizza Capital of the U.S. with an exciting National Pizza Day celebration on February 7, 2025, at BAR New Haven.

This event is a full-blown celebration of the state’s rich pizza heritage, complete with interactive art, community voting, and charitable initiatives.

Connecticut’s pizza scene is legendary, with New Haven-style apizza often hailed as some of the best in the world.

From the charred, thin-crust masterpieces at Pepe’s and Sally’s to the innovative creations at BAR, the state has earned its title as the Pizza Capital.

This event celebrates that legacy and also invites residents and visitors to shape its future through voting, art, and community engagement.

What’s on the Menu?

The event will feature a lineup of announcements and experiences that pizza lovers won’t want to miss:

Voting for the Connecticut Pizza Trail & License Plates

Starting March 14 (National Pi Day), residents can vote for their favorite pizza spots to be included in the upcoming Connecticut Pizza Trail.

Attendees at the event will also get a sneak peek at three pizza-themed license plate designs and have the chance to vote on their favorite. The winning design will be submitted for state approval, giving Connecticut drivers a chance to showcase their pizza pride on the road.

Interactive ‘Pizza State’ Sculpture

Artist Michael Pollack of the New Haven Pizza Club has created a 6×8-foot pizza sculpture shaped like Connecticut, complete with a slice cut out. Made from repurposed Connecticut highway signs, the sculpture symbolizes the state’s status as the Pizza Capital. Attendees can grab a white sharpie and write their favorite pizza spot directly on the artwork, making it a true community masterpiece.

Custom Pizza-Inspired Air Jordans

Sneakerheads and pizza enthusiasts alike will marvel at three pairs of custom Air Jordan 1s inspired by Connecticut pizza. These one-of-a-kind kicks will be on display at the event before being auctioned off for charity in October, with proceeds benefiting Feeding Families.

Limited Edition Pizza Peels

A collaboration between Dusty Dude Works and the New Haven Pizza Club has resulted in limited-edition pizza peels. These beautifully designed tools will be available for purchase, with proceeds also supporting Feeding Families.

Pizza Capital Bus Wrap Unveiling

DATTCO will unveil a new bus wrap proudly declaring Connecticut the “Pizza Capital of the U.S.” — a rolling testament to the state’s pizza prowess.
