Since opening in 1914, the Shubert Theatre has earned the title “Birthplace of the Nation’s Great Hits” by staging the world premieres of hundreds of shows including Oklahoma!, A Streetcar Named Desire, Annie Get Your Gun, My Fair Lady, A Raisin In The Sun, The Sound of Music and countless more.
Before television and film took over, the Shubert was the place for live entertainment, providing an intimate setting where theatergoers could experience the magic of the stage up close.

Backstage Tours of the Shubert
Each season, hundreds of students and adult members of the community take a trip behind the scenes and “back in time” with a “Backstage Tour” of the historic Shubert. You get to explore places such as backstage, dressing rooms and much more – all while learning about our vibrant history!
Tour are typically available on the first Wednesday and Saturday of every month starting at 11:00 am. These backstage tours of the Shubert Theatre are FREE and open to the public – reservations are not required. However, because things are always subject to change, we definitely recommend calling the theater ahead of time to verify that they will be offering the tour that day before you head over.
Additionally, the theater will usually host Free Family Days at various times of the year, offering another opportunity to do a backstage tour while also enjoying other great activities. It’s a great thing to do with kids if you’re looking for something fun and different.
