One of Connecticut’s favorite summer traditions is getting a bit of a makeover. The Milford Oyster Festival, long known for its big crowds, live music, and local flavor, is coming back this August with a fresh format, new venue layout, and two nights of entertainment. And don’t worry, the oysters are still very much on the menu.
Mark your calendars: the 2025 festival will now run Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16, from 5 to 10 p.m. each night, exclusively at Fowler Field in downtown Milford.
This new evening-only format replaces the traditional all-day Saturday event, and festival organizers say the shift was made in response to rising costs, changing dynamics in the concert industry, and a shrinking volunteer base.
Though this means saying goodbye to programming at familiar spots like Milford Green, Lisman Landing, Rotary Pavilion, and Milford Harbor, the heart of the festival, which is the great music, fresh oysters, and community fun, remains firmly in place.
This year’s music lineup leans into high-energy tribute acts and local talent.
Friday night is all about rock nostalgia, with Backstage Pass headlining the stage. Known for their full-throttle performances, they’ll bring the hair, the lights, and the big sound of classic ’80s arena rock with songs from Bon Jovi, Poison, Guns & Roses, and Mötley Crüe. Opening for them is Milford’s own School of Rock, showcasing some seriously talented local youth musicians.
Saturday night builds on the momentum with an epic tribute to Queen, featuring Almost Queen as the headliner. With full costumes, precise vocals, and all the hits, from “Bohemian Rhapsody” to “Somebody to Love,” they promise to deliver the kind of live energy that captures the magic of Freddie Mercury’s legendary performances. Before they take the stage, the crowd will warm up to the sounds of Philadelphia Freedom, a tribute to Elton John, and local acoustic duo Dave & Chrissy.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the Milford Oyster Festival without the oysters.
Local favorite Briarpatch Shellfish Company will once again be serving up the festival’s signature seafood, alongside a wide variety of food trucks and beverage vendors offering everything from beer and wine to hard seltzers.
And if you’re coming with kids, there’s plenty to keep them entertained, including a full amusement ride area (ride wristbands are $35).
Admission to the festival is $8 per night, and children 13 and under are free, as long as they’re with an adult.
While the new format may feel like a departure from tradition, the essence of what makes the Milford Oyster Festival so special is still there. It’s just reimagined in a way that organizers hope will keep it going strong for years to come.
