Lunch and Learn: History of the Blues at Mattatuck Museum

The Mattatuck Museum hosts its monthly Lunch and Learn series with a focus on the history of the blues and its influence on American life and culture. From slave songs to electric blues, this session explores how music and history are deeply intertwined. The talk will be led by Brian Q. Torff, renowned bassist, composer, author, and educator, who currently serves as Professor of Music and Music Program Director at Fairfield University. Torff will draw from his research in the Deep South to illustrate the lasting cultural impact of the blues.
Guests are welcome to order ahead from Sweet Bella @ The MATT or bring their own lunch to enjoy during the program. The event takes place Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 12 pm to 1 pm at the Mattatuck Museum, 144 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06702. Pre-registration is suggested due to limited seating.
The Lunch and Learn series occurs on the first Wednesday of each month. Admission is free with museum membership, and sponsorship is provided by Christine and Eugene Shugrue.
