Indonesian Textiles: Numbers, Colors, and the Thread of Life at Yale University Art Gallery

Ruth Barnes, the Thomas Jaffe Curator of Indo-Pacific Art, will explore how Indonesian textiles reflect both technical craftsmanship and cultural meaning. The program will highlight the relationship between weaving techniques, color traditions, and symbolic designs, offering a deeper understanding of the role textiles play in daily life and ritual practices. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Nusantara: Six Centuries of Indonesian Textiles, this talk showcases the diversity and artistry of textile traditions across the Indonesian archipelago.
