Creative Writing Workshop at Florence Griswold Museum

Art and language come together during the Creative Writing Workshop: Ekphrasitic Poetry Inspired by the Griswold Collection on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 10 am to noon.

Led by Carlin Steere, an essayist, editor and educator at the University of South Florida, the interactive workshop introduces participants to ekphrastic poetry, a form of writing inspired by works of art. After exploring the creative process, participants will respond to several pieces from the Florence Griswold Museum’s permanent collection and have an opportunity to share their work with the group.

The workshop will help participants develop their poems beyond the session, with Steere coordinating submissions of final poems to be compiled into a class anthology.

Admission is $45, with a 10% discount available for museum members. Member discounts are automatically applied after logging into a registered online account. Tickets are available through Creative Writing Workshop registration.

The Creative Writing Workshop takes place at the Florence Griswold Museum, 96 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, Connecticut 06371. Additional event information is available at Florence Griswold Museum event page.
