Witness to a Genocide & the Aftermath of Colonialism at Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center
May 24 @ 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm

The Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center will host a powerful and thought-provoking program on May 24, 2025, titled Witness to a Genocide & the Aftermath of Colonialism. This event offers a deep exploration into the long-lasting impact of colonialism through historical reflection and community dialogue.
The program will begin with a screening of the 30-minute film The Witness, followed by a Q&A with Mashantucket Pequot Museum Executive Director Joshua Carter and a panel of Pequot community members. The discussion will focus on the 1637 massacre of the Pequot village—recognized as the first war between the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island and the English—and its profound effects that still resonate in contemporary society.
Attendees will also view 3 Perspectives, which provides further insight into colonial history from Indigenous viewpoints. The event will create a safe space for open dialogue on the ongoing influence of colonialism in America today, encouraging a deeper understanding of Indigenous experiences and how allies can contribute to dismantling harmful ideologies.
This program is an opportunity for reflection, education, and connection as we examine the shared history and its implications for the future.
