Virtual Lecture: Florine Stettheimer and Americana at Fairfield University Art Museum

A virtual art history lecture exploring the work of Florine Stettheimer will take place online on April 17, 2026 from 5:30 am to 6:30 am PST.

Presented by the Fairfield University Art Museum, this online talk features art historian Barbara Bloemink, PhD, who will examine the life and work of the influential and unconventional American artist. Known for her richly detailed paintings and subtle social commentary, Stettheimer addressed themes such as politics, identity, and culture through a unique and expressive style.

Bloemink, author of Florine Stettheimer: A Biography and other publications, brings extensive scholarship to the discussion. The lecture is presented in conjunction with the exhibition “For Which It Stands…,” which includes a work by Stettheimer and explores broader themes of American identity and history.

Part of the Edwin L. Weisl, Jr. Lectureships in Art History, funded by the Robert Lehman Foundation, the event offers an opportunity to engage with art and history from a remote setting.
