Rodgers & Hammerstein’s beloved musical The Sound of Music returns to the Shubert Theatre from March 26 through March 29, 2026, at 247 College Street, New Haven, CT 06510. This timeless production celebrates the enduring story of Maria and the von Trapp family with a score that has delighted audiences for generations.
Directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, the musical features cherished songs including “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” and “Edelweiss.” The story follows Maria, a spirited young woman who brings music and joy into the home of Captain von Trapp and his seven children, ultimately helping the family find unity, courage, and hope during a time of political uncertainty in Austria.
The Sound of Music also holds a special connection to the Shubert Theatre, where the original production premiered on October 3, 1959, before becoming one of the most celebrated musicals in Broadway history.
Performances are scheduled Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28 at 7 pm, with additional matinees Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 at 1 pm, and a final performance Sunday, March 29 at 2 pm.
