The 29th Connecticut Regiment and the Fight for Freedom at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History

The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History in Hartford will present a special screening of The 29th Connecticut Regiment and the Fight for Freedom on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. This award-winning documentary, named Best Connecticut Film at the 2023 Mystic Film Festival, tells the powerful story of the African-American soldiers who served in the 29th Colored Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Their journey includes battles in South Carolina and Virginia and culminates in Texas, where they helped spread the news of emancipation—now commemorated as Juneteenth.

Following the screening, Christopher Barlow of the Berlin Equity Action Team will share insights into the making of the film. Guests are also invited to explore the museum’s current exhibition, Wide Awake: Campaigning for Lincoln, before and after the program.

Admission is free, but advance registration is requested. The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History is located at 1 Elizabeth Street, Hartford, CT 06105. For more information, email nbelanger@connecticutmuseum.org or visit connecticutmuseum.org.
