Summer Solstice Event: A Sense of Place in Spoken Word at Florence Griswold Museum

The Florence Griswold Museum will host A Sense of Place in Spoken Word, a special Summer Solstice event featuring spoken word artist Derrick L. Strong, on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 2:00 pm. This public program blends poetry with education, offering attendees a unique cultural and historical experience.
Strong will read three original poems inspired by his visits to the Museum grounds and other coastal areas along Long Island Sound. Interwoven with the readings, he will offer insights into Eastern Pequot culture, their connection to land and water, and the historical significance of Muhshoon—traditional dugout canoes used by this “paddle society” to navigate regional waterways.
The Florence Griswold Museum is located at 96 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT 06371. Admission details and registration information can be found at florencegriswoldmuseum.org or by calling 860-434-5542.
