Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum Lecture Series: Connecticut in the American Revolution at Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum

A closer look at Connecticut’s pivotal role in America’s fight for independence will open the 2026 Lecture Series at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm at 295 West Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06850. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

Titled “Connecticut in the American Revolution: Provision State & Arsenal of the Revolution,” the illustrated talk will be presented by historian Eric Chandler. The program explores how Connecticut—despite being one of the smaller colonies—played an outsized role in the American War for Independence. From government leadership and industrial innovation to the determination of its citizens, the state’s contributions helped pave the way for victory against one of the 18th century’s most powerful nations. The lecture will examine the individuals and efforts that proved significant during the eight-year conflict, offering timely perspective as the nation approaches America’s 250th anniversary.

Chandler has been involved in American Revolutionary War living history since 1974, portraying a range of roles including infantry, light infantry, whale-boat raider, and mounted and dismounted dragoons. He currently serves his third term on the Norwalk Historical Commission and sits on the Norwalk Historical Society Board of Directors. A retired underwriter with more than 30 years in the land title insurance industry, Chandler is also a longtime musician and lecturer on historical topics.
