Doors of Weston: A Talk with Artist Julie O’Connor at Weston History & Culture Center

A fascinating exploration of local history and artistry takes place on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 2 pm at the Weston History & Culture Center, 104 Weston Road, Weston, CT 06883.
Artist Julie O’Connor presents a talk on her book Doors of Weston: 300 Years of Passageways in a Connecticut Town, offering insight into how everyday architectural details can reveal deeper stories about a community’s past. Through her work, O’Connor examines how doors serve as symbolic “portals,” reflecting the evolution of Weston and its people over three centuries.
The presentation also shares the creative journey behind the book, including the inspiration drawn from a trip to Tibet and the role of community collaboration in shaping the project. The discussion connects themes of art, history, and place, highlighting how seemingly ordinary structures can hold extraordinary meaning.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event for $50, with proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Weston Public Library, the Weston History & Culture Center, and the League of Women Voters of Weston.
Admission is free, but registration is required due to limited seating. This program is part of the America 250: The Revolutionary Spirit Lecture Series.
