History Hike at Mattatuck Museum

Discover the natural and cultural history of Black Rock State Park during the History Hike hosted by the Mattatuck Museum on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 10 am to 12 pm.

This free guided outing explores the 1.6-mile Black Rock Loop while highlighting the area’s rich history. Participants will learn about the Mohegan, Paugussett, and Tunxis peoples, local legends, archaeological connections, and the region’s notable graphite deposits. Along the way, hikers can enjoy scenic views and gain a deeper appreciation of the landscape through its historical significance.

Transportation is provided from the Mattatuck Museum. Participants should arrive at the museum by 9:30 am for departure.
