Artist Lecture: “A Life Conjuring Art and Magic” at the William Benton Museum of Art

The William Benton Museum of Art presents A Life Conjuring Art and Magic, a lecture by acclaimed collage artist Maureen McCabe, Emeritus Professor of Studio Art at Connecticut College. This special event is part of the Annual Gene and Georgia Mittelman Lecture in the Arts and complements the current exhibition Fate and Magic: The Art of Maureen McCabe.
The afternoon begins with a reception and book signing at 3 pm, where McCabe and Benton Museum Curator Amanda Douberley will sign copies of the exhibition catalogue, which features an essay by Douberley. The artist’s lecture will follow at 4 pm.
Maureen McCabe, born in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1947, is celebrated for her intricate and imaginative collage work that interlaces elements of myth, magic, folklore, and cultural imagery. Over a career spanning six decades, she has held more than 30 solo exhibitions and shown her work in museums across the United States and Mexico. McCabe is a Rhode Island School of Design and Cranbrook Academy of Art graduate, with past residencies at Yaddo, MacDowell, and the American Academy in Rome.
The event takes place Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 3 to 5 pm at the William Benton Museum of Art, 245 Glenbrook Road, Storrs, Connecticut. Admission is free.
