Amazon to Hire 2,000 Seasonal Workers in Connecticut Ahead of Holiday Rush

If you or someone you know is on the hunt for extra work this holiday season, there’s some good news—Amazon just announced plans to bring on 2,000 seasonal employees right here in Connecticut.

Whether you’re looking to boost your holiday budget or explore a new career opportunity, this could be your chance.

The seasonal workers will join Amazon’s existing workforce of 17,000 employees across the state, working in fulfillment centers, sorting, and delivery stations.

With hourly pay starting at $18 and an average reaching $22, it’s an enticing opportunity for many. In fact, the average total compensation is more than $29 per hour when you include the value of elected benefits, like health care coverage that starts on day one.

Plus, there’s always the potential for long-term employment once the holiday rush wraps up.

Sandy Gordon, vice president of global operations employee experience at Amazon, emphasized that many seasonal employees return year after year, and a portion even transition to full-time roles.

“The holiday season is always exciting for Amazon and our customers, and it’s a time when we create a lot of new jobs for people who want to earn extra money for a few months or kick off a career at Amazon,” she said. “Each season we see many individuals come back year after year to be a part of the holiday season here at Amazon. In fact, nearly one-third of people who have come to work at Amazon as a holiday hire return.”

Amazon’s presence in Connecticut spans multiple locations, including South Windsor, Glastonbury, and Windsor, with a new facility potentially bringing another 500 to 1,000 jobs to the Waterbury-Naugatuck area.

Gordon went on to say that Amazon employees get access to a number of benefits.

“For those joining us in full-time roles, benefits include health care from the first day at Amazon and education programs like Career Choice—where we’ll pre-pay tuition for our teammates to earn college degrees or certificates, helping them build their careers for the long term (whether with us or another company),” she said in a press release issued by the company.

The hiring announcement comes as retailers nationwide brace for a holiday shopping season that could see disruptions due to an ongoing dock workers’ strike along the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico.

The strike could impact product imports, leaving some goods stranded at ports. This added uncertainty has retailers like Amazon fine-tuning their staffing and inventory strategies to meet consumer demand.

So, if you’re ready to jump into the holiday hustle and earn some extra cash, Amazon’s seasonal positions could be worth considering!
