Queen Zuri, an authentic New Orleans-Style Restaurant is now open at 230 College Street in New Haven. Born and raised in New Orleans, Kim Soto inherited her Creole cooking skills from her grandmother who began teaching her to cook when she was just five years old. Kim honed her recipes over the years to become a successful restaurateur. Ten years ago, Kim founded Queen Zuri, named after her daughter, in Milford, CT. Her passion, culinary skills and enthusiasm made her an instant success.
Queen Zuri brings more than 30 years of creating New Orleans style cuisine and desserts to New Haven with beignets, cakes, cupcakes, Po’Boys, Gumbo, Jambalaya, Corn and Crab Bisque, Shrimp & Grits and more (menu). What started as a grandmother’s dream is now a granddaughter’s journey. Queen Zuri invites you and your family to taste authentic French Quarter New Orleans without getting on a plane. Queen Zuri is a green business, and they also donate 10% of their earnings to charities!!
Kim transformed her space into an elegant, inviting and authentic Louisiana eatery. Beautiful chandeliers accent the space, while the smell of homemade Creole dishes and desserts fill the air. Soto serves a wide variety of items, including: Banana Pudding Cake, New Orleans Praline Pound Cake, Po’Boy Sandwiches (Catfish, Hot Sausage, Oyster, Muffuletta, Shrimp and Roast Beef), Jambalaya, Gumbo and so much more.
When asked why she chose New Haven for her second location, Kim Soto said “New Haven is a good fit for me and downtown has the hottest restaurant scene in Connecticut. This is a real foodie’s paradise. I think my high quality, authentic cuisine and desserts will be appreciated and well received.”
“We are excited to welcome local Connecticut entrepreneur and restaurateur, Kim Soto, to New Haven. Queen Zuri will be a terrific addition to the downtown restaurant scene with quality ingredients and a specialized New Orleans’ menu.” said Lauren Zucker, Yale University’s Associate Vice President for New Haven Affairs and University Properties. “Yale University’s community investment program supports the growth of New Haven businesses, reinvigorating New Haven’s downtown, creating jobs, and expanding the city’s tax base.”
