The Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight Makes Your Smoke Detector Smart

A nightlight and a smoke detector don’t have much in common but they do if you are talking about the new Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight. The Connected Home is now a reality and the Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight is just one more product to add to your list when you are looking to monitor your home when you aren’t there.

Disclosure: We received a Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight to help facilitate our post and review. Our experience and opinions are our own and may differ from your experience.

Out of the box, the Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight looks like any ordinary nightlight. It is slightly larger than some of the nightlights we have in our home but it still doesn’t look much different. It measures 3″ round.

It’s super simple to use. Just plug it in and download the Free iPhone app and you’re on the way to monitoring your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms with no contract and no monthly fees.

Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight Requirements:

  • iPhone 4S or later / iPod Touch (5th Gen or later) with iOS 7+
  • In-home WiFi
  • Free Leeo app

Once you install the app you will need to create a Leeo account, which is free. Add your name, address, and even a photo of yourself and your house.  You will need to turn on Bluetooth to pair the app with Leeo but you can turn it off once this step is complete. You will also need your home’s WiFi network password handy to add that to your account as well. Smart devices work by using your home’s WiFi and you can check them while you are away from the home using your cellular data.

Leeo works to alert you when there is a possible fire in your home. If your smoke or carbon monoxide alarm goes off Leeo will send you an alert through the app on your phone and you can contact 911 or someone else. You can also add the phone number of a friend, neighbor or family member into the app so it is right there when the alert comes up and you can call them immediately.

You can also press the “Listen Now” button to verify that it wasn’t a false alarm.

When you setup the Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight you should run through an alarm test to make sure it is working. The nightlight needs to be positioned within 75 feet of your smoke and carbon monoxide alarm for it to work properly. Choose the testing option on the app and then press the test button on your alarm. The alarm will beep and if Leeo is working properly it will blink red color and you will receive an alert on your phone.

The Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight also let’s you know the temperature and humidity in the room where it is installed.

Next we get to have some fun with Leeo. The Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight doesn’t just give you light, tell you when an alarm goes off, show you the temperature or humidity, it can also change color – what fun! Using the app, you can selected a color, from among 16 million variations, to match your mood or your wallpaper. Here are some actual photos of some of the colors I changed my Leeo to. I ended up with a lavender color to match the paint in my bedroom.

In conclusion, I believe the Lee Smart Alert Nightlight is a good choice for monitoring your home at an affordable price. The cost is $99 and there are no monthly monitoring fees. It works well and has the extra benefit of color and climate alerts.
