Grill Smarter with the iGrill Bluetooth Thermometer

Grill smarter by tracking the grilling process on your smartphone with an iGrill. iGrill is an innovative smart product that works with the food on your grill and your smartphone or tablet. iDevices, the company behind the iGrill, makes both a single iGrill (mini) and large iGrill 2 smart device for grilling.

iGrill Devices

The iGrill mini (and iGrill 2) is a bluetooth grill thermometer that allows you to monitor the temperature of the meat cooking on the grill through a mobile app. It measures temperatures between -22° F (-30°C) and 572° F (300°C). The packaging says that the bluetooth range is 150 feet and it has a 150 hour battery life. It frees you up to do other things besides stand over the grill and watch the meat cook.

The iGrill mini has one probe whereas the iGrill 2 comes with four probes, different button controls, and the ability to see the temperature through an illuminated display.

As with any smart device the blutooth range can be iffy. It all depends on how many walls you have in between you and the product I believe. I have had connection issues with other blutooth devices so this could also be a problem with the iGrill. You can check out the must buy grills under $200 that’ll help you get the best grill without making a big dent in your wallet.

How does the iGrill work?

First, remove the iGrill from the box and insert the battery (included).

Second, download and install the Free iDevices app (found in the app store on your mobile device)

Requires Android 4.3 and up. Requires iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and now Apple Watch.

Third, turn the iGrill on.

Fourth, enable blutooth on your smartphone or tablet and let it find the iGrill

Now your iGrill is ready to use. Just plug the probe wire into the iGrill and insert the probe into your meat. The iGrill has a magnetic back so you can place the unit on the side of your grill for easy access. The  probe wire is quite long so you should have plenty of range from the unit to the meat.

Troubleshooting: If you find that you lose the blutooth connection, you may have to move closer or make sure there are no walls in between you and the iGrill. If the iGrill doesn’t give you the proper temperature, try putting a piece of foil around the probe wire to protect it from high heat. Hot temperatures can short out the internal wiring in the probe.

You can pick one of the pre-programmed temperature alerts found in the iGrill’s app so you will get alerted when the meat has reached the temperature you want. Now you just need to make sure your smartphone or tablet is nearby so you will receive the alert.

Bonus Recipes:

The iGrill’s app has tons of great grilling recipes with clear cooking instructions. You can also get social with the iGrill app and share your grilled food pics on social sites and check out what other iGrill users are grilling and even where they are located.
