The Foo Fighters have pulled out of their highly anticipated headlining performance at this weekend’s Soundside Music Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut, just days before the event.
The band didn’t cite specific reasons for the cancellation, but the news comes shortly after frontman Dave Grohl revealed he had recently fathered a child outside of his marriage, a personal matter that has made headlines and sparked significant public interest.
The festival, scheduled for the weekend of September 28-29, will now see Jack White taking over the Foo Fighters’ Sunday night slot.
Additionally, Greta Van Fleet has been added to the Sunday lineup, joining other confirmed acts such as Bleachers, Norah Jones, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Hurray for the Riff Raff.
The festival had already faced a lineup change earlier when Queens of the Stone Age canceled their appearance due to frontman Josh Homme’s health issues.
The Foo Fighters’ sudden withdrawal from the event was confirmed via a brief statement posted on the band’s social media channels, advising fans to check the festival website for further information. Comments were disabled on the post, which also appeared on the band’s Instagram Story.
Dave Grohl’s recent personal revelations have undoubtedly cast a shadow over the band’s recent activities.
On September 10, Grohl took to Instagram to admit that he had become the father of a baby daughter outside of his marriage, expressing his commitment to being a loving parent while also working to regain the trust and forgiveness of his wife and children. The scandal has attracted widespread media attention, especially given Grohl’s long-standing reputation as one of the nicest figures in the music industry.
The Foo Fighters’ latest album, But Here We Are, released in June 2023, was the band’s first since the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022.
With the Foo Fighters’ unexpected exit, the festival organizers have managed to secure a stellar replacement in Jack White, and Saturday’s lineup, featuring headliner Noah Kahan, Fleet Foxes, Grace Potter, and Goo Goo Dolls, among others, remains unchanged.
