SUMMARY:The View from Here 2026: Finding Our Paths at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the perspectives and creativity of New Haven youth through The View from Here 2026 at the Yale Center for British Art. On view in the museum’s High Street exterior windows from April 6\, 2026\, through April 6\, 2027\, this free exhibition features photography by nine student artists participating in The View from Here: Accessing Art Through Photography.\n\n\nInspired by the idea of “desire paths\,” the informal routes people create as they move through spaces on their own terms\, the exhibition\, Finding Our Paths\, traces the students’ visual journeys through their daily lives\, histories\, and communities. Developed through work with the museum’s collections and collaboration with a current Yale School of Art MFA student\, the project helps young photographers build technical skills and explore intentional ways of seeing. \nThe photographs capture moments of observation\, connection\, and self-reflection\, revealing how young artists navigate and reimagine their surroundings while seeking new possibilities and meaning. \nAdmission is free. The exhibition is also presented in an installation at Yale Schwarzman Center from April 6 through December 18\, 2026. Learn more at https://britishart.yale.edu/view-here-accessing-art-through-photography.

SUMMARY:Sightlines: British Landscape Photography\, 1840 to Now at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Discover how photography has shaped perceptions of the natural world in Sightlines: British Landscape Photography\, 1840 to Now\, a free exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art from July 23\, 2026\, through January 24\, 2027. SUMMARY:John Constable: The Landscape Reimagined at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the groundbreaking work of British landscape painter John Constable in John Constable: The Landscape Reimagined\, a free exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art from September 3\, 2026\, through July 25\, 2027. On view in the museum’s second-floor galleries\, the exhibition marks the 250th anniversary of Constable’s birth and offers a rare opportunity to experience the breadth of his artistic achievements. \nKnown for his innovative outdoor paintings\, Constable challenged traditional ideas of landscape art by placing greater emphasis on skies\, light\, seasons\, and atmosphere. The exhibition brings together major works\, including cloud studies\, plein air sketches\, and two of his monumental “six-footers\,” among them Hadleigh Castle. Visitors can also see works that have never before been publicly displayed in the United States\, including a study of Hampstead Heath recently acquired by the museum. \nEngravings and drawings reveal how Constable developed his ideas across different artistic media\, while works by contemporaries John Linnell and Richard Parkes Bonington provide insight into the artistic landscape of his time. Together\, these pieces illustrate how Constable’s direct observation of nature helped establish landscape painting as a significant artistic pursuit and influenced generations of painters. \nAdmission is free.

SUMMARY:James Welling: Cento at Fairfield University Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Fairfield University Art Museum will present James Welling: Cento from September 25 through December 12\, 2026\, in the Walsh Gallery at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The exhibition marks the first American museum presentation of this major body of work by renowned contemporary photographer James Welling. \nFeaturing more than 60 photographs focused on the architecture and sculpture of ancient Greece and Rome\, the exhibition explores the intersection of photography\, painting\, printmaking\, and classical art. Welling’s process combines laser-printed photographs on plastic sheets with hand-applied oil paint\, oil sticks\, and powdered pigments\, creating layered works that challenge traditional ideas of photography and visual representation. \nThe title Cento references a form of ancient “found” poetry created through assembled fragments from existing works. Created between 2019 and 2021\, Welling’s photographs combine segments of ancient statuary and architecture with vivid color overlays that invite viewers to consider the lost polychromy of classical sculpture alongside modern reinterpretations of the ancient world. \nThe exhibition also includes works from Welling’s Personae series\, which reimagines ancient portrait busts by incorporating eyes taken from Old Master paintings. Through this process\, the artist seeks to symbolically “reanimate” figures from antiquity for contemporary audiences. \nIn addition to Welling’s photographs\, the exhibition will feature 10 historic plaster casts selected from Fairfield University Art Museum’s collection of more than 100 casts to complement the themes of transformation and reinterpretation found throughout the exhibition. \nJames Welling\, a Connecticut-born artist associated with the influential “Picture Generation\,” has exhibited internationally and is represented by David Zwirner Gallery. His work is included in major museum collections around the world. \nThe exhibition will be accompanied by a series of free public programs including an opening night lecture with the artist on September 24 at 5:30 pm\, followed by a reception at 6:30 pm. Additional programming includes family art activities\, a symposium on archaeological visual practices\, lectures\, and a December 3 anatomical drawing workshop inspired by the exhibition and the Museum’s plaster cast collection. \nFairfield University Art Museum is located at 1073 North Benson Road\, Fairfield\, CT 06824. All exhibition programs are free and open to the public\, though some events require advance registration due to limited capacity. \nFor more information and a complete schedule of events\, visit the Fairfield University Art Museum website.

SUMMARY:Native Forest Bee Habitat Restoration at Great Mountain Forest
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers can support native bee habitat and contribute to ongoing scientific research during a native-species planting event at Great Mountain Forest in Norfolk. The hands-on workday is part of a five-year study examining how healthier\, more diverse forests and restored understory habitats can support native bee populations. \nThe volunteer event will take place on Tuesday\, September 29\, 2026\, with a rain date of Thursday\, October 1. Participants can choose between a two-hour shift from 10 am to noon or a four-hour shift from 10 am to 2 pm. Participation is limited to approximately 10 volunteers\, and registration is required. All participants must sign a Xerces Society volunteer waiver. \nTools and gloves will be provided.
