Parking and entrance are accessible from High Acre Road through the Visitor’s Center. \nSarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom\, American Patriot highlights the story of Sarah Treadwell and the important yet often overlooked role women played during the American Revolution. Through personal history and historical context\, the exhibit explores Sarah’s resilience as a wife\, mother\, and community member while her family took an active role in the fight for independence. \nVisitors will learn about daily life during and after the Revolutionary War\, the experiences of veterans and widows navigating the pension process\, and the challenges faced by families living in the North Fairfield area\, which later became Weston and Easton. The exhibit also sheds light on the broader contributions women made to sustaining homes and communities during America’s founding years. \nCurated by Mark Brennan with research assistance from the Historical Society of Easton\, the exhibition is funded in part by a grant from Connecticut Humanities in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary. \nThe exhibit is open during public hours every Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm and on the first and last Sunday of each month from 1 pm to 4 pm. DESCRIPTION:The Norwalk Seaport Association and the Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society will offer special five-hour lighthouse adventure cruises on June 6\, July 11\, and August 8\, inviting guests to explore two of New England’s most historic maritime landmarks in a single excursion. \nDeparting at 8:30 am from the Norwalk Seaport Association dock at 90 Water Street in Norwalk and returning at approximately 1:30 pm\, the guided cruise combines history\, architecture\, storytelling\, and coastal scenery along Long Island Sound. \nThe excursion begins with a cruise through Norwalk Harbor to Greens Ledge Lighthouse\, one of only 33 surviving “Spark Plug” style lighthouses in the United States. Built in 1902 and recently restored\, the lighthouse now welcomes visitors to explore areas including the Beacon Room\, the Trombos Research Center\, and the historic Maclean Watch Room. Guests can also enjoy panoramic harbor views from the outdoor deck while learning about the lighthouse’s colorful history\, including stories of pirates and buried treasure connected to the region. \nThe journey continues to Sheffield Island Lighthouse\, a Victorian-era landmark built in 1868 and listed as a National Historic Site. Visitors can tour restored lighthouse rooms that reflect 19th-century lighthouse life\, climb the tower for views stretching toward the Manhattan skyline\, and relax with a picnic in the island’s shaded seaside pavilion. Parking and entrance are accessible from High Acre Road through the Visitor’s Center. \nSarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom\, American Patriot highlights the story of Sarah Treadwell and the important yet often overlooked role women played during the American Revolution. Through personal history and historical context\, the exhibit explores Sarah’s resilience as a wife\, mother\, and community member while her family took an active role in the fight for independence. \nVisitors will learn about daily life during and after the Revolutionary War\, the experiences of veterans and widows navigating the pension process\, and the challenges faced by families living in the North Fairfield area\, which later became Weston and Easton. The exhibit also sheds light on the broader contributions women made to sustaining homes and communities during America’s founding years. \nCurated by Mark Brennan with research assistance from the Historical Society of Easton\, the exhibition is funded in part by a grant from Connecticut Humanities in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary. \nThe exhibit is open during public hours every Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm and on the first and last Sunday of each month from 1 pm to 4 pm.
