SUMMARY:Plant A Seed\, Read: 2026 Summer Reading Program at Bridgeport Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Readers of all ages are invited to grow their love of books during the Bridgeport Public Library’s 2026 Summer Reading Program\, “Plant A Seed\, Read.” Beginning June 22\, library branches throughout Bridgeport will host free reading challenges\, educational activities\, and special events that encourage lifelong learning and summer fun. \nInspired by the idea that farms nourish our bodies while libraries nourish our minds\, this year’s theme celebrates the power of reading to help curiosity\, creativity\, and knowledge take root. Through books and shared stories\, participants can explore new cultures\, discover fresh interests\, learn about the world around them\, and strengthen connections within the community. \nThe program is open to readers of all ages\, regardless of residency\, and features opportunities to earn prizes\, incentives\, promotional items\, and entries into special prize drawings throughout the summer. Grand prizes for children\, teens\, and adults will be awarded when the program concludes in early September. \nBridgeport Public Library is also participating in the Connecticut Governor’s Summer Learning Challenge\, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026. SUMMARY:All-American Summer Celebration at Lake Compounce
DESCRIPTION:Lake Compounce celebrates America’s 250th birthday and the park’s 180th anniversary with the All-American Summer Celebration\, a season-long event filled with patriotic entertainment\, family activities\, special attractions\, and summer fun from July 3 through August 22\, 2026. \nThis limited-time celebration brings together classic American traditions and exciting new experiences throughout the park. Guests can enjoy fireworks over the lake every Saturday from July 3 through August 15\, creating a spectacular finale to a day of rides and attractions. New for 2026\, dazzling drone light shows will take place on August 21 and 22\, preceded by high-energy DJ Beach Parties featuring music and dancing. \nThe celebration also includes a variety of live entertainment and interactive activities. Decade Dance Nights take place on Fridays\, inviting guests to dance through the music and styles of different eras. Friday pie-eating contests offer all-American fun for both children and adults\, while Sundays feature performances by a traditional barbershop quartet. Vintage-inspired characters will also roam the park on weekends near the North Train Station. \nVisitors can sample special seasonal food and beverage offerings available throughout the park\, including treats from The Croc Pot\, The Potato Patch\, Main Gate Creamery\, Sweet Shoppe\, and Dippin’ Dots.
