SUMMARY:Plant A Seed\, Read: 2026 Summer Reading Program at Bridgeport Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Readers of all ages are invited to grow their love of books during the Bridgeport Public Library’s 2026 Summer Reading Program\, “Plant A Seed\, Read.” Beginning June 22\, library branches throughout Bridgeport will host free reading challenges\, educational activities\, and special events that encourage lifelong learning and summer fun. \nInspired by the idea that farms nourish our bodies while libraries nourish our minds\, this year’s theme celebrates the power of reading to help curiosity\, creativity\, and knowledge take root. Through books and shared stories\, participants can explore new cultures\, discover fresh interests\, learn about the world around them\, and strengthen connections within the community. \nThe program is open to readers of all ages\, regardless of residency\, and features opportunities to earn prizes\, incentives\, promotional items\, and entries into special prize drawings throughout the summer. Grand prizes for children\, teens\, and adults will be awarded when the program concludes in early September. \nBridgeport Public Library is also participating in the Connecticut Governor’s Summer Learning Challenge\, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026. Families can visit any library branch to borrow recommended titles from the Governor’s Summer Reading Lists\, as well as access a wide selection of books through the library’s digital collections. \nWhether discovering a favorite new author\, completing reading challenges\, or attending engaging library programs\, participants are encouraged to spend the summer exploring everything the Bridgeport Public Library has to offer. \nFor more information or to register\, visit www.bportlibrary.org or stop by any Bridgeport Public Library branch.

SUMMARY:Lighthouse Adventure Cruises to Greens Ledge Light and Sheffield Island Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The Norwalk Seaport Association and the Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society will offer special five-hour lighthouse adventure cruises on June 6\, July 11\, and August 8\, inviting guests to explore two of New England’s most historic maritime landmarks in a single excursion. \nDeparting at 8:30 am from the Norwalk Seaport Association dock at 90 Water Street in Norwalk and returning at approximately 1:30 pm\, the guided cruise combines history\, architecture\, storytelling\, and coastal scenery along Long Island Sound. \nThe excursion begins with a cruise through Norwalk Harbor to Greens Ledge Lighthouse\, one of only 33 surviving “Spark Plug” style lighthouses in the United States. Guests can also enjoy panoramic harbor views from the outdoor deck while learning about the lighthouse’s colorful history\, including stories of pirates and buried treasure connected to the region. \nThe journey continues to Sheffield Island Lighthouse\, a Victorian-era landmark built in 1868 and listed as a National Historic Site. Visitors can tour restored lighthouse rooms that reflect 19th-century lighthouse life\, climb the tower for views stretching toward the Manhattan skyline\, and relax with a picnic in the island’s shaded seaside pavilion. The island’s history includes tales of smugglers\, pirates\, and bootleggers that add to the immersive maritime experience. \nThe cruises are designed for visitors of all ages and offer a unique opportunity to experience Connecticut’s coastal history and scenic beauty from the water. \nAdditional summer programming from the Norwalk Seaport Association includes daily and weekend cruises to Sheffield Island\, sunset cruises through Norwalk Harbor\, Tuesday clambakes in July and August\, and Pirates Day festivities on July 18 and 19. \nFor tickets and additional information\, visit seaport.org.
