SUMMARY:Plant A Seed\, Read: 2026 Summer Reading Program at Bridgeport Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Readers of all ages are invited to grow their love of books during the Bridgeport Public Library’s 2026 Summer Reading Program\, “Plant A Seed\, Read.” Beginning June 22\, library branches throughout Bridgeport will host free reading challenges\, educational activities\, and special events that encourage lifelong learning and summer fun. \nInspired by the idea that farms nourish our bodies while libraries nourish our minds\, this year’s theme celebrates the power of reading to help curiosity\, creativity\, and knowledge take root. Through books and shared stories\, participants can explore new cultures\, discover fresh interests\, learn about the world around them\, and strengthen connections within the community. \nThe program is open to readers of all ages\, regardless of residency\, and features opportunities to earn prizes\, incentives\, promotional items\, and entries into special prize drawings throughout the summer. Grand prizes for children\, teens\, and adults will be awarded when the program concludes in early September. \nBridgeport Public Library is also participating in the Connecticut Governor’s Summer Learning Challenge\, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the creativity of local student artists during the Milford Student Exhibit 2026\, on view at the Milford Arts Council from Tuesday through Friday\, June 17 through August 6. The seasonal exhibition showcases a variety of artwork created by talented student artists from the community and offers visitors the opportunity to support and appreciate emerging creative talent. \nGallery hours are 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during June\, 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. throughout July due to theatre camp\, and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during August. \nThe exhibition concludes with an Award Reception and Artwork Pick-up on Thursday\, August 6\, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by Milford Pediatrics Group\, the reception will include the announcement of cash award winners selected by the judging panel. Selected artists may also be invited to display their work at the Milford Pediatrics office. \nThis family-friendly exhibit is part of the Milford Arts Council’s seasonal exhibitions.

DESCRIPTION:A new exhibition exploring the life and legacy of a Revolutionary War-era Connecticut woman will be on view from May 9 through July 30\, 2026 at the Weston History & Culture Center\, 104 Weston Road\, Weston\, CT 06883. Parking and entrance are accessible from High Acre Road through the Visitor’s Center. \nSarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom\, American Patriot highlights the story of Sarah Treadwell and the important yet often overlooked role women played during the American Revolution. Through personal history and historical context\, the exhibit explores Sarah’s resilience as a wife\, mother\, and community member while her family took an active role in the fight for independence. \nVisitors will learn about daily life during and after the Revolutionary War\, the experiences of veterans and widows navigating the pension process\, and the challenges faced by families living in the North Fairfield area\, which later became Weston and Easton. The exhibit also sheds light on the broader contributions women made to sustaining homes and communities during America’s founding years. \nCurated by Mark Brennan with research assistance from the Historical Society of Easton\, the exhibition is funded in part by a grant from Connecticut Humanities in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary. \nThe exhibit is open during public hours every Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm and on the first and last Sunday of each month from 1 pm to 4 pm. SUMMARY:FIFA World Cup 2026™ Public Screenings at Pitkin Plaza
DESCRIPTION:Experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ with fellow soccer fans at Downtown New Haven’s World Cup Village\, taking over Pitkin Plaza throughout June and July. Presented in partnership with Trinity Bar & Restaurant\, this free community viewing experience transforms downtown into a gathering place for fans to cheer on their favorite teams\, enjoy local food specials\, and celebrate the world’s biggest sporting event. \nMost matches will be screened outdoors at Pitkin Plaza\, creating a lively festival atmosphere complete with fellow supporters\, outdoor seating\, and family-friendly fun. Matches that cannot be shown outside due to local noise ordinances or weather conditions will be available indoors at Trinity Bar & Restaurant. \nThe first round of screenings begins on June 11 and continues daily through June 27\, featuring dozens of World Cup matches from across the tournament’s group stage. Additional screenings for the knockout rounds and championship matches will continue through July 19. \nVisitors can take advantage of special dining promotions from local restaurants throughout the tournament\, including discounts and special World Cup-themed meals from Trinity Bar & Restaurant\, Tacos Los Gordos\, It’s Thai Time\, Blue Orchid\, Sweet Mary’s Bakery\, and other participating downtown businesses. \nThe World Cup Village is free to attend and welcomes fans of all ages. Leashed pets are also welcome at outdoor screenings. Guests are encouraged to bring friends\, grab takeout from local restaurants\, and enjoy the international atmosphere as teams from around the globe compete for soccer’s most prestigious title. \nOutdoor screenings take place at Pitkin Plaza\, located at 145 Orange Street in downtown New Haven. Indoor screenings will be held at Trinity Bar & Restaurant when necessary. \nAdmission is free.
