SUMMARY:Plant A Seed\, Read: 2026 Summer Reading Program at Bridgeport Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Readers of all ages are invited to grow their love of books during the Bridgeport Public Library’s 2026 Summer Reading Program\, “Plant A Seed\, Read.” Beginning June 22\, library branches throughout Bridgeport will host free reading challenges\, educational activities\, and special events that encourage lifelong learning and summer fun. \nInspired by the idea that farms nourish our bodies while libraries nourish our minds\, this year’s theme celebrates the power of reading to help curiosity\, creativity\, and knowledge take root. Through books and shared stories\, participants can explore new cultures\, discover fresh interests\, learn about the world around them\, and strengthen connections within the community. \nThe program is open to readers of all ages\, regardless of residency\, and features opportunities to earn prizes\, incentives\, promotional items\, and entries into special prize drawings throughout the summer. Grand prizes for children\, teens\, and adults will be awarded when the program concludes in early September. \nBridgeport Public Library is also participating in the Connecticut Governor’s Summer Learning Challenge\, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026. SUMMARY:Zoo Patrol at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport is gearing up for another season of Zoo Patrol\, an immersive summer youth program that brings children face-to-face with wildlife through hands-on learning and outdoor adventure. Designed for curious young animal lovers\, this popular program offers a behind-the-scenes look at the Zoo while inspiring the next generation of conservationists. \nThroughout the week\, participants explore the Zoo through guided adventures\, interactive activities\, and engaging staff-led presentations. Each day highlights a different focus area\, introducing children to animal enrichment\, veterinary care\, and real-world conservation efforts. Much of the program takes place outdoors\, giving campers the opportunity to experience the Zoo in a dynamic and memorable way. \nZoo Patrol is offered for children ages 7–10 and 11–13\, with 2026 sessions scheduled as follows: June 29 to July 3 (ages 11–13); July 6 to July 10 (ages 7–10); July 13 to July 17 (ages 11–13); July 20 to July 24 (ages 7–10); July 27 to July 31 (ages 11–13); August 3 to August 7 (ages 7–10); and August 10 to August 14 (ages 7–10). Each session runs from 9 am to 12:30 pm\, with drop-off between 8:50 am and 9:10 am and pick-up at 12:30 pm. \nThe cost is $295 per week for Zoo members and $320 per week for non-members. The program takes place at the Hanson Building / Kathy Brady Education Center at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo\, 1875 Noble Avenue\, Bridgeport\, CT 06610. \nFamilies may also enhance the experience by adding an Animal Adoption Box during registration. Distributed every Friday at the conclusion of that day’s session\, the box includes three mini stuffed animals\, an adoption certificate\, an animal fact card\, an animal bookmark\, a “Proud to Be Saving Species” sticker\, and a four-pack of crayons. Proceeds directly support the Zoo’s conservation and education initiatives. \nChildren should bring a nut-free snack\, water bottle\, sunscreen\, and any additional items needed for outdoor activities.
