SUMMARY:Colonial Encampment with the 5th CT Regiment at Weston History & Culture Center
DESCRIPTION:A full day of Revolutionary War living history takes place on May 16\, 2026 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Weston History & Culture Center\, 104 Weston Road\, Weston\, CT 06883. \nThis family-friendly event brings history to life with an immersive colonial encampment experience featuring the 5th Connecticut Regiment. Visitors can explore demonstrations of daily life during the Revolutionary War\, including blacksmithing\, weaving\, outdoor cooking\, woodworking\, and wool spinning. Interactive exhibits and reenactors portray soldiers\, surgeons\, and civilians\, offering insight into life during the era. \nScheduled activities throughout the day include a kid’s musket drill and march at 11 am and 3 pm\, soldier drills with musket firing at 11:30 am and 2:30 pm\, a Revolutionary War fashion show at 1 pm\, and historic weaving demonstrations from 2 pm to 4 pm. Additional highlights include a soldier’s life tent\, artifact displays\, and guided tours of the Coley House\, along with access to the Weston at Work interactive exhibit. \nFood will be available for purchase from JR’s Food Truck and Skip’s Ice Cream truck from 11 am to 3 pm. SUMMARY:Take me\, take me\, take me . . . to the Palace of Love at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Rina Banerjee’s suspended installation reimagines the iconic form of the Taj Mahal through contemporary materials and perspective. Rather than marble and permanence\, Banerjee constructs her palace from a steel and copper frame wrapped in translucent pink cellophane\, challenging assumptions about luxury\, history\, and cultural legacy. Floating above the ground\, the tentlike structure encloses objects that reference colonial histories\, including an antique Anglo-Indian Bombay chair and a chandelier assembled from foam\, plastic beads\, synthetic elements\, and artificial birds. The work reflects Banerjee’s distinctive practice of combining found objects with consumer materials gathered from markets near her New York home. \nBanerjee\, who received her MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1995\, sees this work return to New Haven for its first display at the museum since its acquisition in 2023. The installation is on view from February 7 through July 26\, 2026\, at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, CT. The museum is open Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.
