SUMMARY:The View from Here 2026: Finding Our Paths at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the perspectives and creativity of New Haven youth through The View from Here 2026 at the Yale Center for British Art. On view in the museum’s High Street exterior windows from April 6\, 2026\, through April 6\, 2027\, this free exhibition features photography by nine student artists participating in The View from Here: Accessing Art Through Photography.\n\n\nInspired by the idea of “desire paths\,” the informal routes people create as they move through spaces on their own terms\, the exhibition\, Finding Our Paths\, traces the students’ visual journeys through their daily lives\, histories\, and communities. Developed through work with the museum’s collections and collaboration with a current Yale School of Art MFA student\, the project helps young photographers build technical skills and explore intentional ways of seeing. \nThe photographs capture moments of observation\, connection\, and self-reflection\, revealing how young artists navigate and reimagine their surroundings while seeking new possibilities and meaning. \nAdmission is free. The exhibition is also presented in an installation at Yale Schwarzman Center from April 6 through December 18\, 2026. SUMMARY:Loyalists and Sons of Liberty: America 250 at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the complex perspectives surrounding the American Revolution in Loyalists and Sons of Liberty: America 250\, a free exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art from May 6 through December 31\, 2026. On view in the museum’s fourth-floor galleries and Study Room\, the display examines the struggle for American independence through artworks created by British- and American-born artists. \nFeaturing paintings\, prints\, drawings\, and sculptures by artists including Benjamin West\, John Singleton Copley\, and Gilbert Stuart\, the exhibition looks beyond the familiar division between patriots and loyalists. The works reveal how the Revolution divided communities\, tested relationships across the Atlantic\, and inspired competing visions for the colonies’ future. \nVisitors can encounter portraits of historical figures such as King George III\, Queen Charlotte\, and General Charles Cornwallis\, alongside depictions of other military and political figures whose stories shaped the period. The exhibition also highlights supporters of the American cause in Britain and works intended to express loyalty to the British monarchy and empire. \nAdmission is free. Visitors can explore works featured in the exhibition through the museum’s online collection at https://britishart.yale.edu/exhibitions-programs/loyalists-and-sons-liberty-america-250.

SUMMARY:Sightlines: British Landscape Photography\, 1840 to Now at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Discover how photography has shaped perceptions of the natural world in Sightlines: British Landscape Photography\, 1840 to Now\, a free exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art from July 23\, 2026\, through January 24\, 2027. Displayed in the museum’s third-floor galleries\, the exhibition spans nearly two centuries of landscape photography and features more than 100 photographic works. \nThe exhibition explores how landscape images can celebrate natural beauty\, document social life\, and reveal the effects of industrialization and environmental change. Visitors can see works ranging from early botanical studies by photography pioneers William Henry Fox Talbot and Bessie Rayner Parkes to industrial landscape images by Bruce Davidson and Rachel Whiteread. The display also includes surreal digital photomontages and related works in prints\, drawings\, and books. \nThrough these varied approaches\, Sightlines examines photography as a means of building knowledge\, inspiring artistic expression\, and questioning how society understands and interacts with its surroundings. The exhibition invites visitors to consider how images influence perceptions of nature\, history\, and the environment. \nThe exhibition is curated by Jackson Davidow\, project manager in the Yale Center for British Art’s Public Engagement division. Admission is free.

SUMMARY:John Constable: The Landscape Reimagined at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the groundbreaking work of British landscape painter John Constable in John Constable: The Landscape Reimagined\, a free exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art from September 3\, 2026\, through July 25\, 2027. On view in the museum’s second-floor galleries\, the exhibition marks the 250th anniversary of Constable’s birth and offers a rare opportunity to experience the breadth of his artistic achievements. \nKnown for his innovative outdoor paintings\, Constable challenged traditional ideas of landscape art by placing greater emphasis on skies\, light\, seasons\, and atmosphere. The exhibition brings together major works\, including cloud studies\, plein air sketches\, and two of his monumental “six-footers\,” among them Hadleigh Castle. Visitors can also see works that have never before been publicly displayed in the United States\, including a study of Hampstead Heath recently acquired by the museum. \nEngravings and drawings reveal how Constable developed his ideas across different artistic media\, while works by contemporaries John Linnell and Richard Parkes Bonington provide insight into the artistic landscape of his time. Together\, these pieces illustrate how Constable’s direct observation of nature helped establish landscape painting as a significant artistic pursuit and influenced generations of painters. \nAdmission is free.

SUMMARY:The New England Vampire Folk Belief: The Archaeological Record
DESCRIPTION:The archaeological evidence behind New England’s historic vampire folklore will be explored in a virtual presentation by Dr. Nicholas F. Bellantoni\, Connecticut state archaeologist emeritus. The program examines cases from the late 18th and 19th centuries when corpses were exhumed and altered in attempts to stop the spread of consumption\, the historical term for pulmonary tuberculosis. \nBellantoni will discuss a significant archaeological discovery from an eastern Connecticut family burial ground\, where researchers uncovered the rearranged skeletal remains of an adult male showing evidence of tuberculosis infection. The presentation draws on archaeological excavations\, American literature\, folklore and forensic research to explore how these findings help explain vampire-related folk beliefs in Connecticut. \nDr. Bellantoni is a former Connecticut state archaeologist and associate research professor in anthropology at the University of Connecticut. His research includes forensic archaeology and faunal analysis in eastern North America. His latest book\, Vampires and Gallstones: Bioarchaeology and Forensic Science of Connecticut’s Historic Burial Grounds\, is scheduled for publication in November 2026. \nThe talk will be held virtually at 7 pm on Thursday\, October 8. Admission is free for Wilton Historical Society members and $10 for non-members. \nFor more information\, contact the Wilton Historical Society at 203-762-7257.
