DESCRIPTION:Creativity takes center stage this summer with the Shubert Summer Theater & Arts Camp\, a program designed to help young artists explore their talents while building confidence\, friendships\, and artistic skills in a supportive environment. Open to students entering grades 3 through 8 in Fall 2026\, the camp offers an engaging mix of theater and arts experiences led by experienced educators and artists. \nHeld at Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School in New Haven\, the camp welcomes both New Haven and non-New Haven residents. SUMMARY:Camp Matt at Mattatuck Museum
DESCRIPTION:Creativity\, history\, and hands-on discovery come together during Camp Matt at the Mattatuck Museum\, running from June 29 through August 7. The Museum’s School’s OUT! Summer Adventures Camp will feature six themed weeks designed to immerse children in artmaking\, storytelling\, history\, and interactive learning experiences inspired by the Museum’s galleries and exhibitions. \nCamp sessions run daily from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm\, with free before and after care available from 8 am to 9 am and from 3:30 pm to 5 pm. Each week introduces campers to a different theme through unique art techniques\, creative exploration\, and engaging activities. \nThe first week\, Backstage Pass\, runs June 29 through July 2 and explores the connection between music and visual art through the Museum’s concert poster exhibition. Additional themed weeks include Archiving America: 250 Years of Stories from July 6 through July 10\, Passport to Paint from July 13 through July 17\, Art Safari from July 20 through July 24\, The Art of the Experiment from July 27 through July 31\, and Art Unbound from August 3 through August 7. \nThe program encourages campers to experiment with artistic techniques\, explore cultural traditions\, and discover storytelling through art\, science\, movement\, and sound. Activities throughout the summer are designed to inspire imagination while helping children build creative confidence in a Museum setting. \nThe Mattatuck Museum is located at 144 West Main Street\, Waterbury\, CT 06702. Camp admission is $210 for the general public\, $205 for Museum members\, and $105 for Kids Adventure Passholders\, who receive a 50 percent discount on School’s OUT! pricing. DESCRIPTION:Adults interested in history\, archaeology\, and hands-on research can explore Connecticut’s past through the CSMNH Archaeology Field School for Adults\, offered by the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History\, the Office of State Archaeology\, and the Friends of the Office of State Archaeology. This week-long immersive program takes place July 6–10\, 2026\, from 9 am to 3 pm each day at a 17th-century colonial site in South Glastonbury\, Connecticut. \nParticipants will gain practical experience contributing to an active archaeological investigation while learning essential field techniques\, including excavation methods\, mapping\, paperwork\, data management\, and artifact identification. Working alongside professional archaeologists\, attendees will engage directly with primary historical sources and discover how archaeology helps uncover and preserve Connecticut’s rich cultural heritage. \nThe program is led by Connecticut State Archaeologist Dr. Sarah Sportman and is designed to foster a deeper understanding of archaeological ethics\, preservation practices\, and the importance of protecting historical resources for future generations. The discussion will highlight the state’s contributions to the war effort and its lasting impact on the nation’s path to independence. \nIn addition to exploring Connecticut’s role during the Revolution\, Dr. Warshauer will discuss how Americans have commemorated the Declaration of Independence over time and consider the significance of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary within today’s political and cultural landscape. \nThe evening begins with dinner at 5 pm\, followed by the presentation at 6 pm.
