DESCRIPTION:Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport is gearing up for another season of Zoo Patrol\, an immersive summer youth program that brings children face-to-face with wildlife through hands-on learning and outdoor adventure. Designed for curious young animal lovers\, this popular program offers a behind-the-scenes look at the Zoo while inspiring the next generation of conservationists. \nThroughout the week\, participants explore the Zoo through guided adventures\, interactive activities\, and engaging staff-led presentations. Each day highlights a different focus area\, introducing children to animal enrichment\, veterinary care\, and real-world conservation efforts. Much of the program takes place outdoors\, giving campers the opportunity to experience the Zoo in a dynamic and memorable way. \nZoo Patrol is offered for children ages 7–10 and 11–13\, with 2026 sessions scheduled as follows: June 29 to July 3 (ages 11–13); July 6 to July 10 (ages 7–10); July 13 to July 17 (ages 11–13); July 20 to July 24 (ages 7–10); July 27 to July 31 (ages 11–13); August 3 to August 7 (ages 7–10); and August 10 to August 14 (ages 7–10). Each session runs from 9 am to 12:30 pm\, with drop-off between 8:50 am and 9:10 am and pick-up at 12:30 pm. \nThe cost is $295 per week for Zoo members and $320 per week for non-members. The program takes place at the Hanson Building / Kathy Brady Education Center at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo\, 1875 Noble Avenue\, Bridgeport\, CT 06610. \nFamilies may also enhance the experience by adding an Animal Adoption Box during registration. Distributed every Friday at the conclusion of that day’s session\, the box includes three mini stuffed animals\, an adoption certificate\, an animal fact card\, an animal bookmark\, a “Proud to Be Saving Species” sticker\, and a four-pack of crayons. SUMMARY:Take me\, take me\, take me . . . to the Palace of Love at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Rina Banerjee’s suspended installation reimagines the iconic form of the Taj Mahal through contemporary materials and perspective. Rather than marble and permanence\, Banerjee constructs her palace from a steel and copper frame wrapped in translucent pink cellophane\, challenging assumptions about luxury\, history\, and cultural legacy. Floating above the ground\, the tentlike structure encloses objects that reference colonial histories\, including an antique Anglo-Indian Bombay chair and a chandelier assembled from foam\, plastic beads\, synthetic elements\, and artificial birds. The work reflects Banerjee’s distinctive practice of combining found objects with consumer materials gathered from markets near her New York home. \nBanerjee\, who received her MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1995\, sees this work return to New Haven for its first display at the museum since its acquisition in 2023. The installation is on view from February 7 through July 26\, 2026\, at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, CT. The museum is open Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.

Through personal history and historical context\, the exhibit explores Sarah’s resilience as a wife\, mother\, and community member while her family took an active role in the fight for independence. \nVisitors will learn about daily life during and after the Revolutionary War\, the experiences of veterans and widows navigating the pension process\, and the challenges faced by families living in the North Fairfield area\, which later became Weston and Easton. The exhibit also sheds light on the broader contributions women made to sustaining homes and communities during America’s founding years. \nCurated by Mark Brennan with research assistance from the Historical Society of Easton\, the exhibition is funded in part by a grant from Connecticut Humanities in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary. \nThe exhibit is open during public hours every Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm and on the first and last Sunday of each month from 1 pm to 4 pm. Participants will learn how hand tools can be used for tasks such as thinning small trees\, controlling invasive plant species\, and improving forest access while minimizing environmental impact. Through a combination of classroom instruction and field demonstrations\, attendees will develop skills in tool selection\, proper use\, maintenance\, and safety. \nLed by Great Mountain Forest forestry staff\, including Forester Emeritus Jody Bronson and Forester Kate Regan-Loomis\, the course emphasizes practical stewardship techniques that can be applied to small-scale woodland projects and sensitive natural areas. \nThe workshop has been approved for two Connecticut Forest Practitioner continuing education credits. Participants should be prepared for extended time outdoors and must be able to walk on uneven terrain\, stand for prolonged periods\, and perform light physical activities. Outdoor conditions may include heat\, insects\, and rugged ground. \nThe course will take place at the historic Yale Camp within Great Mountain Forest\, accessed through the forest’s West Gate on Chattleton Road off Canaan Mountain Road in Falls Village\, CT.
