DESCRIPTION:Rina Banerjee’s suspended installation reimagines the iconic form of the Taj Mahal through contemporary materials and perspective. Rather than marble and permanence\, Banerjee constructs her palace from a steel and copper frame wrapped in translucent pink cellophane\, challenging assumptions about luxury\, history\, and cultural legacy. Floating above the ground\, the tentlike structure encloses objects that reference colonial histories\, including an antique Anglo-Indian Bombay chair and a chandelier assembled from foam\, plastic beads\, synthetic elements\, and artificial birds. The work reflects Banerjee’s distinctive practice of combining found objects with consumer materials gathered from markets near her New York home. \nBanerjee\, who received her MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1995\, sees this work return to New Haven for its first display at the museum since its acquisition in 2023. The installation is on view from February 7 through July 26\, 2026\, at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, CT. The museum is open Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.

Rather than marble and permanence\, Banerjee constructs her palace from a steel and copper frame wrapped in translucent pink cellophane\, challenging assumptions about luxury\, history\, and cultural legacy. Floating above the ground\, the tentlike structure encloses objects that reference colonial histories\, including an antique Anglo-Indian Bombay chair and a chandelier assembled from foam\, plastic beads\, synthetic elements\, and artificial birds. The work reflects Banerjee’s distinctive practice of combining found objects with consumer materials gathered from markets near her New York home. \nBanerjee\, who received her MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1995\, sees this work return to New Haven for its first display at the museum since its acquisition in 2023. The installation is on view from February 7 through July 26\, 2026\, at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, CT. The museum is open Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.

DESCRIPTION:A series of curator-led tours exploring the exhibition For Which It Stands… will take place throughout the spring at the Fairfield University Art Museum\, 1073 North Benson Road\, Fairfield\, CT 06824. \nLed by Carey Weber\, curator of the exhibition and executive director of the Fairfield University Art Museum\, these tours offer an in-depth look at the works and themes behind the exhibition. Each session focuses on a single gallery location\, either the Bellarmine Hall Galleries or the Walsh Gallery at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. \nTour dates include Thursday\, March 26 at 5:30 pm in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries; Thursday\, April 30 at 12 pm in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries; Thursday\, April 30 at 5:30 pm at the Walsh Gallery in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts; Wednesday\, May 27 at 12 pm at the Walsh Gallery; and Thursday\, June 18 at 5:30 pm in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries. \nThe exhibition examines depictions of the American flag through more than 70 works by a diverse group of artists\, beginning with Childe Hassam’s Italian Day\, May 1918\, created during World War I\, and continuing to contemporary works\, including a textile sculpture commissioned for the exhibition by Maria de Los Angeles. The presentation features works in a variety of media by artists such as Jasper Johns\, Faith Ringgold\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Shepard Fairey\, and Julie Mehretu\, encouraging viewers to reflect on the evolving symbolism of the American flag and the ideals it represents. \nFor Which It Stands… is part of America250: The Promise and Paradox\, an initiative through which Fairfield University explores 250 years of the American experiment. \nFor more information about the tours and exhibition\, visit the Fairfield University Art Museum website.

DESCRIPTION:Young musicians from across West Hartford will take the stage for the West Hartford Inter-Elementary Music Festival 2026 on May 27\, 2026 at 7:30 pm at The Bushnell. The performance runs approximately 90 minutes. \nA tradition spanning more than 60 years\, the Inter-Elementary Music Festival brings together talented students from all eleven West Hartford elementary schools. More than 250 students are selected through auditions to perform in band\, choir\, and orchestra ensembles after months of weekly rehearsals held from February through May. \nThe festival culminates with a large-scale performance in Mortensen Hall\, showcasing the musical achievements and dedication of young performers from throughout the district. \nGuests requiring accessible seating should note that the Mezzanine and Balcony levels of Mortensen Hall are not wheelchair accessible and cannot accommodate mobility assistance devices.
