SUMMARY:Script in Hand: The One Good Thing or “Are Ya Patrick Swayze?” at Westport Country Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:The Script in Hand series continues with The One Good Thing or “Are Ya Patrick Swayze?”\, a new play that explores themes of brotherhood\, grief\, and memory with humor and poignancy. Set in a small cottage above the Irish Sea\, the story follows brothers Jamie and Tommy\, whose daily routines are shaken when Jamie makes a startling revelation that casts their past in a new light. The play blends sharp wit\, emotional depth\, and a touch of the supernatural to ask what we carry\, what we bury\, and what we might finally let go. \nScript in Hand playreadings offer audiences a unique theater experience\, with actors rehearsing for just one day before presenting the work on stage with simple lighting and no set\, leaving the audience to imagine the world of the play. Each performance is one-of-a-kind\, created in the moment with the actors\, director\, and audience together. \nThe reading will take place on September 8\, 2025\, at 7:00 pm at Westport Country Playhouse\, 25 Powers Court\, Westport\, CT 06880. Tickets and season subscriptions for the Script in Hand 2025 series are available through the Playhouse website.

SUMMARY:William Blake: Burning Bright at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:The Yale Center for British Art will present William Blake: Burning Bright\, an exhibition exploring the visionary art and poetry of William Blake (1757–1827). Known for his radical perspectives on religion\, politics\, and society during the era of the American and French Revolutions\, Blake created highly original illuminated books\, watercolors\, paintings\, and verse. The exhibition highlights the museum’s exceptional holdings\, including celebrated works such as Songs of Innocence and of Experience (1789–94) and The First Book of Urizen (1794). Visitors will also see rare and unique pieces\, including the only fully hand-colored version of Blake’s epic poem Jerusalem (1804–20) and the one-of-a-kind illustrations for The Poems of Thomas Gray (1797–98). \nThe display offers insight into Blake’s innovative printing techniques\, particularly his method for uniting text and image on a single copper plate\, as well as his mastery of engraving and watercolor. Although largely unrecognized during his lifetime\, Blake’s powerful imagery and poetic vision now stand among the most celebrated achievements in British art and literature. \nWilliam Blake: Burning Bright will be on view from Tuesday\, August 26\, 2025\, through Sunday\, November 30\, 2025\, in the third-floor galleries at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, Connecticut. Admission is free.

SUMMARY:Romney: Brilliant Contrasts in Georgian England at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:The Yale Center for British Art\, in collaboration with the Yale University Art Gallery\, presents Romney: Brilliant Contrasts in Georgian England\, a compelling exhibition celebrating the museum’s reopening and showcasing the remarkable work of British portraitist George Romney (1734–1802). \nRenowned in his day for capturing the likenesses of fashionable Londoners\, Romney was considered a leading figure of Georgian portraiture\, rivaled only by contemporaries Thomas Gainsborough and Sir Joshua Reynolds. While his ambitions as a history painter were never fully realized\, Romney’s expressive drawings and mastery of form\, line\, and light speak volumes about his creative depth and vision. \nThe exhibition explores Romney’s dual talents through a diverse presentation of portraits\, preparatory sketches\, and musical instruments from the Morris Steinert Collection of Musical Instruments—reflecting his lesser-known interests in music and craftsmanship. Together\, these works shed light on Romney’s artistic legacy and the cultural contrasts of eighteenth-century England\, resonating with admirers from William Blake to contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley. \nRomney: Brilliant Contrasts in Georgian England is on view from Friday\, March 28 through Sunday\, October 19\, 2025\, at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, Connecticut. \nAdmission is free. For more information\, visit britishart.yale.edu.

SUMMARY:Amy Irving with the Goolis Orchestra at Levitt Pavilion
DESCRIPTION:Amy Irving and the Goolis Orchestra return to the Levitt Pavilion for a special free concert celebrating Irving’s birthday and the release of her newest album\, Always Will Be. The performance highlights Irving’s inventive interpretations of songs written by Willie Nelson\, including a reimagined version of “I’m Waiting Forever\,” originally composed for her by Nelson in 1980. \nIrving\, known for her acclaimed career as an Academy Award-nominated actress with roles in Yentl\, Crossing Delancey\, and Carrie\, made her musical debut in 2023 with Born in a Trunk. Her follow-up album features genre-defying tracks that range from punk rock to samba\, and collaborations with artists such as Willie Nelson\, Steve Earle\, Amy Helm\, and Louis Cato. The concert will showcase her gift for storytelling through song and her ability to breathe new life into Nelson’s work with warmth and originality. \nThis free event takes place on Sunday\, September 7\, 2025\, at 7:00 pm at the Levitt Pavilion in Westport. While tickets are free\, advance reservations are required.
