SUMMARY:Sarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom\, American Patriot at Weston History & Culture Center
DESCRIPTION:A new exhibition exploring the life and legacy of a Revolutionary War-era Connecticut woman will be on view from May 9 through December 17\, 2026 at the Weston History & Culture Center\, 104 Weston Road\, Weston\, CT 06883. Parking and entrance are accessible from High Acre Road through the Visitor’s Center. \nSarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom\, American Patriot highlights the story of Sarah Treadwell and the important yet often overlooked role women played during the American Revolution. Through personal history and historical context\, the exhibit explores Sarah’s resilience as a wife\, mother\, and community member while her family took an active role in the fight for independence. \nVisitors will learn about daily life during and after the Revolutionary War\, the experiences of veterans and widows navigating the pension process\, and the challenges faced by families living in the North Fairfield area\, which later became Weston and Easton. The exhibit also sheds light on the broader contributions women made to sustaining homes and communities during America’s founding years. \nCurated by Mark Brennan with research assistance from the Historical Society of Easton\, the exhibition is funded in part by a grant from Connecticut Humanities in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary. \nThe exhibit is open during public hours every Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm and on the first and last Sunday of each month from 1 pm to 4 pm. The museum is closed on holidays and holiday weekends. \nFor more information\, visit westoncthistory.org.

DESCRIPTION:A major exhibition exploring American history and identity through art is on view through July 25\, 2026 at the Fairfield University Art Museum\, 1073 North Benson Road\, Fairfield\, CT 06824. \nFor Which It Stands… brings together more than 70 works by artists from the early 20th century to the present\, all centered on interpretations of the American flag. Highlights include Childe Hassam’s Italian Day\, May 1918 and a newly commissioned textile sculpture by Maria de Los Angeles. Together\, the works invite visitors to consider how the meaning of the American flag has evolved and who it represents. \nRecognized by national publications including The Wall Street Journal and Hyperallergic\, the exhibition offers a thought-provoking look at key moments in U.S. history through the lens of contemporary and historical art. Complementary programming\, including gallery talks\, lectures\, and family-friendly activities\, is offered throughout the run of the exhibition. \nAdmission and related programs are free and open to the public. \nFor more information\, including hours and program schedules\, visit fairfield.edu/museum or call 203-254-4046.

SUMMARY:Take me\, take me\, take me . . . to the Palace of Love at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Rina Banerjee’s suspended installation reimagines the iconic form of the Taj Mahal through contemporary materials and perspective. Rather than marble and permanence\, Banerjee constructs her palace from a steel and copper frame wrapped in translucent pink cellophane\, challenging assumptions about luxury\, history\, and cultural legacy. Floating above the ground\, the tentlike structure encloses objects that reference colonial histories\, including an antique Anglo-Indian Bombay chair and a chandelier assembled from foam\, plastic beads\, synthetic elements\, and artificial birds. The work reflects Banerjee’s distinctive practice of combining found objects with consumer materials gathered from markets near her New York home. \nBanerjee\, who received her MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1995\, sees this work return to New Haven for its first display at the museum since its acquisition in 2023. The installation is on view from February 7 through July 26\, 2026\, at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, CT. The museum is open Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.
