SUMMARY:Hew Locke: Passages at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:The Yale Center for British Art presents Hew Locke: Passages\, an exhibition tracing more than three decades of work by Guyanese-British artist Hew Locke. Known for his layered\, richly textured approach described as a “postcolonial baroque\,” Locke employs sculpture\, photography\, drawing\, and found objects to challenge and reimagine the visual codes of imperialism. \nOn view from Thursday\, October 2\, 2025\, through Sunday\, January 11\, 2026\, in the second-floor galleries\, the exhibition spans Locke’s career from the late 1990s to today. It highlights recurring themes such as portraiture\, public statuary\, ships\, boats\, and architecture\, while exploring the lasting effects of colonialism and the legacies of global capitalism\, migration\, and diaspora. \nLocke\, born in Edinburgh in 1959 and raised in Guyana before returning to Britain in 1980\, draws from both his British and Guyanese heritage to create works that fuse vernacular and formal traditions. His practice reflects a dynamic engagement with history and contemporary society through innovative use of material and form. \nAdmission to the exhibition is free. The Yale Center for British Art is located at 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, CT 06510.

SUMMARY:William Blake: Burning Bright at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:The Yale Center for British Art will present William Blake: Burning Bright\, an exhibition exploring the visionary art and poetry of William Blake (1757–1827). Known for his radical perspectives on religion\, politics\, and society during the era of the American and French Revolutions\, Blake created highly original illuminated books\, watercolors\, paintings\, and verse. The exhibition highlights the museum’s exceptional holdings\, including celebrated works such as Songs of Innocence and of Experience (1789–94) and The First Book of Urizen (1794). Visitors will also see rare and unique pieces\, including the only fully hand-colored version of Blake’s epic poem Jerusalem (1804–20) and the one-of-a-kind illustrations for The Poems of Thomas Gray (1797–98). \nThe display offers insight into Blake’s innovative printing techniques\, particularly his method for uniting text and image on a single copper plate\, as well as his mastery of engraving and watercolor. Although largely unrecognized during his lifetime\, Blake’s powerful imagery and poetic vision now stand among the most celebrated achievements in British art and literature. \nWilliam Blake: Burning Bright will be on view from Tuesday\, August 26\, 2025\, through Sunday\, November 30\, 2025\, in the third-floor galleries at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, Connecticut. Admission is free.

SUMMARY:Cuco: Ridin’ Tour at College Street Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Hawthorne\, California-based singer\, songwriter\, and producer Cuco brings his Ridin’ Tour to New Haven\, blending heartfelt lyricism with an evolving\, soulful sound. Known for pushing musical boundaries\, Cuco first gained attention with the lo-fi bedroom pop of his 2016 debut mixtape Wannabewithu and later expanded his dreamy\, bilingual style with his 2019 album Para Mi. His music has become a defining voice for a new generation of Mexican-American artists\, merging romantic themes\, psychedelic textures\, and cultural pride. \nWith his latest release\, Ridin’ (May 9)\, Cuco embraces a more intimate and nostalgic aesthetic\, inspired by Southern California’s Chicano soul classics and vintage car culture. Produced with Tom Brenneck—whose collaborations include Bruno Mars and Amy Winehouse—the album features lush horn arrangements\, organic instrumentation\, and deeply personal lyrics about love\, heartbreak\, and heritage. The result is a timeless\, soul-tinged record with the romantic warmth and authenticity fans have loved since his breakout hit “Lo Que Siento.” \nThe Ridin’ Tour stops at College Street Music Hall on Tuesday\, October 28\, 2025. Doors open at 7:00 pm\, and the show begins at 8:00 pm. This event features general admission standing room on the floor and reserved seating in the balcony. \nCollege Street Music Hall is located at 238 College Street\, New Haven\, Connecticut.
