This longstanding monthly concert series features Sonoro\, a contemporary ensemble renowned for its Third Stream style—fusing the classical music tradition with jazz freedom and Latin passion. \nComposer and pianist Sharon Ruchman leads the ensemble\, drawing inspiration from her family’s musical legacy and her own mastery of genre-bending composition. Alongside Ruchman\, acclaimed cellist Mary Costanza brings depth and elegance to each performance. Costanza’s distinguished career includes performances with orchestras such as the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra\, as well as critically acclaimed recordings of Brahms\, Rachmaninov\, and Bach. \nGuests can expect thoughtful interpretations and inventive compositions that breathe fresh life into familiar works\, highlighting Sonoro’s remarkable technique and improvisational spirit. \nConcerts will be held on July 13\, August 10\, September 14\, October 12\, November 9\, and December 14\, 2025\, with additional dates extending into 2026. Each performance begins at 3:00 pm. Seating is first come\, first served\, with priority for Museum Members—please have your Membership card ready at the entrance to the performance space. Seating capacity is limited to 120 guests\, and all attendees must register at the Front Desk upon arrival. \nAdmission is free for Museum Members; tickets for non-members are $25 for adults\, $20 for seniors\, and $15 for college students and youth ages 6–17. DESCRIPTION:Japanese folklore\, art\, and mythology take center stage this summer as Central Connecticut State University welcomes Yokai Parade: Supernatural Monsters from Japan\, a traveling exhibition from the Japan Foundation. The exhibition will be celebrated with an opening reception on June 23 from 5 pm to 7 pm on the second floor of the Elihu Burritt Library in New Britain. \nPresented in partnership with the Consulate General of Japan in Boston\, the exhibition explores the fascinating world of yokai—supernatural creatures\, mysterious beings\, and unexplained phenomena that have captured the imagination of people in Japan for centuries. Special guest remarks will be delivered during the opening reception by Consul General Seiichirō Takahashi\, the head diplomat of the Consulate General of Japan in Boston. \nThrough historical and contemporary works\, Yokai Parade examines how these legendary figures have evolved over time. The exhibition features traditional picture scrolls\, colorful nishiki-e woodblock prints\, toys\, films\, and other media that illustrate the enduring influence of yokai in Japanese culture. Visitors will discover how creatures once associated with fear and mystery gradually became beloved and recognizable figures in popular culture. \nOrganized by the Japan Foundation as part of its international traveling exhibition program\, the exhibition highlights Japan’s rich artistic traditions while promoting cultural understanding and exchange. \nThe Elihu Burritt Library is located on the campus of Central Connecticut State University\, 1615 Stanley Street\, New Britain\, CT 06050.
