DESCRIPTION:Families can explore Connecticut history from home with the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History’s Family Activity Kits\, featuring a new theme beginning July 1\, 2026. \nDesigned as free take-home resources\, these kits combine history\, creativity\, and hands-on learning for children and families. The July–August theme\, “Moving Right Along to CT\,” explores immigration throughout Connecticut’s history and encourages participants to discover more about their own family stories. Activities include crafts\, interactive projects\, and opportunities to create maps of the communities and places that are meaningful to them. \nEach kit contains crafts\, hands-on activities\, and images from the museum’s collections centered around the featured theme. Themes change every other month\, providing new ways for families to engage with history throughout the year. \nPlease note that this is not an on-site program. Family Activity Kits are available for pickup during all museum open hours beginning July 1\, 2026\, at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History\, 1 Elizabeth Street\, Hartford\, CT 06105. Presented as part of the Long Weekend Hartford festival\, this free public program celebrates the restoration and rededication of the historic Colt Monument. \nThe afternoon begins with an opening ceremony and monument rededication at 12:30 pm\, recognizing the recent restoration of the landmark sculpture created by artist John Massey Rhind. At 1 pm\, guests can learn more about the monument’s history and conservation through a discussion led by Erin Monroe\, Krieble Curator of American Paintings and Sculpture at The Wadsworth\, and sculpture conservator Francis Miller. A guided walking tour of Coltsville follows at 2 pm\, led by Alan Amelinckx\, Interpretation and Education Program Manager for Coltsville National Historical Park and Springfield Armory. \nIn addition to the educational programs\, visitors can enjoy family-friendly activities presented by the Colt Park Foundation\, live entertainment\, local food trucks\, and hot-air balloon rides organized by the City of Hartford.
