DESCRIPTION:In recognition of Juneteenth\, the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History will host a special behind-the-scenes tour on Saturday\, June 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This program highlights the stories of Connecticans who have worked toward social justice and freedom\, with a focus on 20th-century civil rights efforts. \nParticipants will visit the museum’s collections storage spaces to view rare and powerful artifacts\, including materials related to 1960s fair housing protests\, posters from the New Haven Black Panthers trial\, and personal letters sent to a Connecticut student jailed for protesting segregation in the South. \nTickets must be purchased in advance online. Admission is $15 for general visitors\, $10 for members at levels under $150\, and free for members at levels $150 and above. \nThe Connecticut Museum of Culture and History is located at 1 Elizabeth Street\, Hartford\, CT. DESCRIPTION:Experience the vibrant rhythms and traditions of Afro-Puerto Rican culture at the Bomba Workshop with Bomba de Aquí on Saturday\, June 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History in Hartford. \nLed by Brendaliz Cepeda—granddaughter of NEA Heritage Fellow Rafael Cepeda—and current SNEAP Mentor Saul Peñaloza\, this free\, family-friendly workshop offers an engaging introduction to Bomba drumming and dance. Bomba de Aquí is a dance and music company known for sharing Puerto Rican traditions across western Massachusetts and central Connecticut. \nParticipants will learn about the history and significance of Afro-Puerto Rican music and are encouraged to take part in dancing and drumming. The workshop will be taught in both Spanish and English.
