SUMMARY:The View from Here 2026: Finding Our Paths at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the perspectives and creativity of New Haven youth through The View from Here 2026 at the Yale Center for British Art. On view in the museum’s High Street exterior windows from April 6\, 2026\, through April 6\, 2027\, this free exhibition features photography by nine student artists participating in The View from Here: Accessing Art Through Photography.\n\n\nInspired by the idea of “desire paths\,” the informal routes people create as they move through spaces on their own terms\, the exhibition\, Finding Our Paths\, traces the students’ visual journeys through their daily lives\, histories\, and communities. Developed through work with the museum’s collections and collaboration with a current Yale School of Art MFA student\, the project helps young photographers build technical skills and explore intentional ways of seeing. \nThe photographs capture moments of observation\, connection\, and self-reflection\, revealing how young artists navigate and reimagine their surroundings while seeking new possibilities and meaning. \nAdmission is free. The exhibition is also presented in an installation at Yale Schwarzman Center from April 6 through December 18\, 2026. Learn more at https://britishart.yale.edu/view-here-accessing-art-through-photography.

SUMMARY:Sightlines: British Landscape Photography\, 1840 to Now at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Discover how photography has shaped perceptions of the natural world in Sightlines: British Landscape Photography\, 1840 to Now\, a free exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art from July 23\, 2026\, through January 24\, 2027. SUMMARY:John Constable: The Landscape Reimagined at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the groundbreaking work of British landscape painter John Constable in John Constable: The Landscape Reimagined\, a free exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art from September 3\, 2026\, through July 25\, 2027. On view in the museum’s second-floor galleries\, the exhibition marks the 250th anniversary of Constable’s birth and offers a rare opportunity to experience the breadth of his artistic achievements. \nKnown for his innovative outdoor paintings\, Constable challenged traditional ideas of landscape art by placing greater emphasis on skies\, light\, seasons\, and atmosphere. The exhibition brings together major works\, including cloud studies\, plein air sketches\, and two of his monumental “six-footers\,” among them Hadleigh Castle. Visitors can also see works that have never before been publicly displayed in the United States\, including a study of Hampstead Heath recently acquired by the museum. \nEngravings and drawings reveal how Constable developed his ideas across different artistic media\, while works by contemporaries John Linnell and Richard Parkes Bonington provide insight into the artistic landscape of his time. Together\, these pieces illustrate how Constable’s direct observation of nature helped establish landscape painting as a significant artistic pursuit and influenced generations of painters. \nAdmission is free.

SUMMARY:She Wouldn’t Take Off Her Boots at Fairfield University
DESCRIPTION:Fairfield University will dedicate She Wouldn’t Take Off Her Boots\, a bronze Holocaust memorial sculpture by artist Victoria Milstein\, on Thursday\, September 10. The sculpture honors five Jewish women who were murdered during the Holocaust and commemorates an extraordinary act of defiance in the face of certain death. \nThe sculpture depicts the five women alongside a bronze camera facing them\, symbolizing the Nazi photographer’s lens through which their final moments were documented. The memorial tells the story of Frume Purve\, who refused to remove her boots before her execution\, along with Sorella Epstein\, Roza Epstein\, Mia-Malka Epstein\, and Emma Epstein. Their courage and dignity have become a lasting symbol of resistance and the enduring strength of the human spirit. \nThe memorial is the second U.S. installation of Milstein’s work and is located between the Charles F. Dolan School of Business and Bellarmine Pond on the Fairfield University campus. The first installation was unveiled in Greensboro\, North Carolina\, in 2023. Fairfield’s sculpture was donated by Shoah Memorial Fairfield\, Connecticut\, which was established by Fairfield native Paul Burger after he encountered the original memorial. An accompanying endowment will support the sculpture’s maintenance and care in perpetuity. \nAn invitation-only dedication ceremony will take place from 5 to 5:30 pm on September 10\, with speakers including Fairfield University President Mark R. Nemec\, PhD\, Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt\, Paul Burger\, and Victoria Milstein. The ceremony will be followed by a ticketed lecture by Ambassador Lipstadt at 7:30 pm at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The lecture\, “Art\, Memory\, History: The Holocaust and Its Lessons for Our Moment\,” is part of the Philip I. Eliasoph Open VISIONS Forum. \nThe sculpture itself is available for visitors to experience from dawn to dusk. It is located on the Fairfield University campus at 1073 North Benson Road\, Fairfield\, CT 06824\, with parking available at the Dolan School of Business and the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. Additional information about the memorial and its history is available through the Fairfield University Art Museum.
