DESCRIPTION:A new exhibition exploring the life and legacy of a Revolutionary War-era Connecticut woman will be on view from May 9 through December 17\, 2026 at the Weston History & Culture Center\, 104 Weston Road\, Weston\, CT 06883. Parking and entrance are accessible from High Acre Road through the Visitor’s Center. \nSarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom\, American Patriot highlights the story of Sarah Treadwell and the important yet often overlooked role women played during the American Revolution. Through personal history and historical context\, the exhibit explores Sarah’s resilience as a wife\, mother\, and community member while her family took an active role in the fight for independence. \nVisitors will learn about daily life during and after the Revolutionary War\, the experiences of veterans and widows navigating the pension process\, and the challenges faced by families living in the North Fairfield area\, which later became Weston and Easton. The exhibit also sheds light on the broader contributions women made to sustaining homes and communities during America’s founding years. \nCurated by Mark Brennan with research assistance from the Historical Society of Easton\, the exhibition is funded in part by a grant from Connecticut Humanities in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary. \nThe exhibit is open during public hours every Thursday from 1 pm to 4 pm and on the first and last Sunday of each month from 1 pm to 4 pm. DESCRIPTION:Experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ with fellow soccer fans at Downtown New Haven’s World Cup Village\, taking over Pitkin Plaza throughout June and July. Presented in partnership with Trinity Bar & Restaurant\, this free community viewing experience transforms downtown into a gathering place for fans to cheer on their favorite teams\, enjoy local food specials\, and celebrate the world’s biggest sporting event. \nMost matches will be screened outdoors at Pitkin Plaza\, creating a lively festival atmosphere complete with fellow supporters\, outdoor seating\, and family-friendly fun. Matches that cannot be shown outside due to local noise ordinances or weather conditions will be available indoors at Trinity Bar & Restaurant. \nThe first round of screenings begins on June 11 and continues daily through June 27\, featuring dozens of World Cup matches from across the tournament’s group stage. Additional screenings for the knockout rounds and championship matches will continue through July 19. \nVisitors can take advantage of special dining promotions from local restaurants throughout the tournament\, including discounts and special World Cup-themed meals from Trinity Bar & Restaurant\, Tacos Los Gordos\, It’s Thai Time\, Blue Orchid\, Sweet Mary’s Bakery\, and other participating downtown businesses. \nThe World Cup Village is free to attend and welcomes fans of all ages. Leashed pets are also welcome at outdoor screenings. Guests are encouraged to bring friends\, grab takeout from local restaurants\, and enjoy the international atmosphere as teams from around the globe compete for soccer’s most prestigious title. \nOutdoor screenings take place at Pitkin Plaza\, located at 145 Orange Street in downtown New Haven. Each session focuses on a single gallery location\, either the Bellarmine Hall Galleries or the Walsh Gallery at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. \nTour dates include Thursday\, March 26 at 5:30 pm in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries; Thursday\, April 30 at 12 pm in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries; Thursday\, April 30 at 5:30 pm at the Walsh Gallery in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts; Wednesday\, May 27 at 12 pm at the Walsh Gallery; and Thursday\, June 18 at 5:30 pm in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries. \nThe exhibition examines depictions of the American flag through more than 70 works by a diverse group of artists\, beginning with Childe Hassam’s Italian Day\, May 1918\, created during World War I\, and continuing to contemporary works\, including a textile sculpture commissioned for the exhibition by Maria de Los Angeles. Led by Master Teaching Artist Ed Johnetta Miller\, the workshop will explore the story of the young Black women who attended Prudence Crandall’s School for Young Black Girls in Canterbury\, Connecticut\, despite facing hostility\, danger\, and injustice in their pursuit of education. \nThrough storytelling and the presentation of her commemorative quilts\, Miller will share the experiences and resilience of these students while highlighting the importance of remembrance and historical reflection. Following the presentation\, participants will create their own collage portraits using a variety of materials and images to honor themes of courage\, learning\, and perseverance. \nThe hands-on workshop is designed for all experience levels\, and participants will be able to take their completed artwork home.
