DESCRIPTION:A magical children’s theatre experience takes place May 12–13\, 2026 at The Bushnell\, 166 Capitol Avenue\, Hartford\, CT 06106. \nPart of the Bushnell Children’s Theatre Series\, Once Upon A Time: Cinderella & Jack and the Beanstalk brings two classic fairytales together in one imaginative production designed for young audiences in grades Pre-K through 3. The show follows Cinderella as she overcomes her stepfamily’s challenges and Jack as he climbs a towering beanstalk to face a giant adventure\, blending themes of kindness\, courage\, and creativity. \nWith engaging storytelling and a playful approach\, the performance introduces children to live theatre in a fun and accessible way. \nShowtimes are scheduled for May 12 at 10 am and 12 pm\, and May 13 at 10 am. DESCRIPTION:A contemporary art exhibition exploring the expressive power of materials will be on view from May 9 through May 17\, 2026 at browngrotta arts\, 276 Ridgefield Road\, Wilton\, CT 06897. \nTransformations: Dialogues in Art and Material brings together nearly three dozen international artists working across a wide range of mediums\, including clay\, silk\, steel\, bark\, bamboo\, seaweed\, and horsehair. The exhibition examines how artists engage with materials as active collaborators\, shaping and reimagining them to create meaningful\, sensory experiences. Through this approach\, the show highlights the concept of “material intelligence\,” where artistic vision and technical understanding combine to transform raw matter into compelling works of art. \nVisitors will encounter a diverse collection of sculptures\, textiles\, and mixed-media works that demonstrate how different artists can achieve strikingly varied results even when working with similar materials. The exhibition emphasizes the relationship between concept and craft\, offering insight into how materials influence artistic outcomes. \nThe exhibition opens on May 9 from 11 am to 6 pm with an opening and artists’ reception.
