SUMMARY:Colonials of Old Lyme: A Tour of Connecticut Historic Home Interiors in Old Lyme
DESCRIPTION:A special one-day bus tour exploring colonial-era architecture will take place on Saturday\, May 2\, 2026\, with departures at 9 am and 2 pm in Old Lyme\, CT. This guided experience brings guests inside several historic homes while highlighting many others along the route from the comfort of a charter bus. \nThe tour examines the architectural evolution of Old Lyme\, a historic coastal town located where the Connecticut River meets Long Island Sound. Originally part of the Saybrook Colony established in 1635\, the area later became the center of the town of Lyme in 1667 before forming its own boundaries in 1727. By the time residents staged their own “Boston Tea Party” in 1774\, the town’s architecture had already begun to shift from modest Cape Cod-style homes to larger and more elaborate residences. \nInterior stops include several notable colonial-era homes\, such as a house built in 1699 that may later have served as a stop on the Underground Railroad\, as well as a classic saltbox-style residence. Additional homes will be highlighted during the bus tour\, offering a broader look at vernacular New England architecture along with Georgian and Federal styles. \nThroughout the tour\, participants will learn about the people who lived in these homes and the local history that shaped the community. Some interior stops are private homes\, and space is limited. \nThe tour is offered for one day only. For full details and registration\, visit www.histoury.org.

SUMMARY:Take me\, take me\, take me . . . to the Palace of Love at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Rina Banerjee’s suspended installation reimagines the iconic form of the Taj Mahal through contemporary materials and perspective. Rather than marble and permanence\, Banerjee constructs her palace from a steel and copper frame wrapped in translucent pink cellophane\, challenging assumptions about luxury\, history\, and cultural legacy. Floating above the ground\, the tentlike structure encloses objects that reference colonial histories\, including an antique Anglo-Indian Bombay chair and a chandelier assembled from foam\, plastic beads\, synthetic elements\, and artificial birds. The work reflects Banerjee’s distinctive practice of combining found objects with consumer materials gathered from markets near her New York home. \nBanerjee\, who received her MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1995\, sees this work return to New Haven for its first display at the museum since its acquisition in 2023. The installation is on view from February 7 through July 26\, 2026\, at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, CT. The museum is open Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.

SUMMARY:Primary Trust at Westport Country Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:A moving and intimate new play takes the stage from April 14 through May 2\, 2026 at Westport Country Playhouse\, 25 Powers Court\, Westport\, CT 06880. \nWinner of the 2024 Pulitzer Prize\, Eboni Booth’s Primary Trust is a thoughtful and uplifting exploration of friendship\, change\, and personal growth. The story follows Kenneth\, a man whose carefully structured life is disrupted when he loses his long-held job. Encouraged by his best friend Bert and shaped by a series of unexpected encounters\, Kenneth begins to step beyond his comfort zone and discover new possibilities. \nBlending humor\, heart\, and quiet introspection\, the play offers a deeply human look at resilience and the transformative power of connection. As Kenneth navigates uncertainty\, even the smallest interactions take on profound meaning in this gentle yet powerful narrative. \nPerformances run April 14 through May 2\, with showtimes scheduled throughout the run\, including evening performances at 7 pm and 8 pm and select matinees at 2 pm and 3 pm. \nFor tickets and more information\, visit westportplayhouse.org.
