SUMMARY:The View from Here 2026: Finding Our Paths at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the perspectives and creativity of New Haven youth through The View from Here 2026 at the Yale Center for British Art. On view in the museum’s High Street exterior windows from April 6\, 2026\, through April 6\, 2027\, this free exhibition features photography by nine student artists participating in The View from Here: Accessing Art Through Photography.\n\n\nInspired by the idea of “desire paths\,” the informal routes people create as they move through spaces on their own terms\, the exhibition\, Finding Our Paths\, traces the students’ visual journeys through their daily lives\, histories\, and communities. Developed through work with the museum’s collections and collaboration with a current Yale School of Art MFA student\, the project helps young photographers build technical skills and explore intentional ways of seeing. \nThe photographs capture moments of observation\, connection\, and self-reflection\, revealing how young artists navigate and reimagine their surroundings while seeking new possibilities and meaning. \nAdmission is free. The exhibition is also presented in an installation at Yale Schwarzman Center from April 6 through December 18\, 2026. Learn more at https://britishart.yale.edu/view-here-accessing-art-through-photography.

SUMMARY:Take me\, take me\, take me . . . to the Palace of Love at Yale Center for British Art
DESCRIPTION:Rina Banerjee’s suspended installation reimagines the iconic form of the Taj Mahal through contemporary materials and perspective. Rather than marble and permanence\, Banerjee constructs her palace from a steel and copper frame wrapped in translucent pink cellophane\, challenging assumptions about luxury\, history\, and cultural legacy. Floating above the ground\, the tentlike structure encloses objects that reference colonial histories\, including an antique Anglo-Indian Bombay chair and a chandelier assembled from foam\, plastic beads\, synthetic elements\, and artificial birds. The work reflects Banerjee’s distinctive practice of combining found objects with consumer materials gathered from markets near her New York home. \nBanerjee\, who received her MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1995\, sees this work return to New Haven for its first display at the museum since its acquisition in 2023. The installation is on view from February 7 through July 26\, 2026\, at the Yale Center for British Art\, 1080 Chapel Street\, New Haven\, CT. The museum is open Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.

SUMMARY:Mosquitoes Staged Reading at Milford Arts Council
DESCRIPTION:A new theatrical adaptation brings a fresh perspective to a literary classic on April 12\, 2026 at 4 pm at the Milford Arts Council\, 40 Railroad Avenue South\, Milford\, CT 06460. \nPresented as part of Eastbound Theatre’s Plays in Development series\, this staged reading reimagines Mosquitoes\, the 1927 novel by William Faulkner\, through a modern lens. Adapted by Germaine Shames and directed by Martha Schmoyer LoMonaco\, the production explores themes of class\, identity\, and human behavior with a contemporary\, feminist perspective. \nSet aboard a luxury yacht in New Orleans\, the story follows a widowed arts patron who invites an eclectic group of French Quarter artists to entertain her niece. When the yacht runs aground and supplies begin to run low\, tensions rise and relationships unravel\, revealing both humor and deeper emotional truths. The play blends sharp dialogue with a mix of eccentric characters\, offering both a coming-of-age story and a reflection on growing older. \nThe cast features performers from across the region\, including actors from Milford\, Woodbridge\, Guilford\, Bridgeport\, and Stratford. \nAdmission is free and open to the public\, with donations accepted.
