Before there was Toy Story, there was The Nutcracker. Masha, one of ballet’s pluckiest heroines, journeys to a land where toys come to life.
The children of Counselor Stahlbaum, Masha and Fritz, ask their father to buy them the wonderful dolls displayed in the window of the toy shop. He does not agree, but secretly negotiates with his friend Drosselmeier to send dolls to the children for Christmas. The Master sends gifts and prepares a surprise — a small doll for cracking nuts — the Nutcracker.
The Nutcracker, based on a fairy tale by Hoffman isn’t just for Christmas. Tchaikovsky’s lustrous music and the magnificent choreography of Marius Petipa have made this beloved story a must-see for children of all ages.
