Women in East Asian Paintings, Reimagined at Yale University Art Gallery
January 28 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Sadako Ohki, Japan Foundation Associate Curator of Japanese Art, presents an exploration of a recently acquired polychrome Japanese painting from 1786 by Hara Zaichū. The discussion reimagines the identity of the women depicted in the work, considering the accompanying calligraphic poem and comparing representations of women in Chinese and Japanese art from the 16th through 19th centuries. Guests can meet by the central column in the Gallery lobby. Space is limited.
The event takes place on Tuesday, January 28, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Yale University Art Gallery is located in New Haven, Connecticut.
