TWAIN’TS with Kevin Mac Donnell at Mark Twain House Museum

May 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

TWAIN’TS with Kevin Mac Donnell at Mark Twain House Museum

As part of the Trouble Begins Series, the Mark Twain House & Museum presents TWAIN’TS with Kevin Mac Donnell on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 7:00 pm. This in-person event explores how Mark Twain’s image, style, and characters have been reimagined, appropriated, or parodied in works not actually authored by Twain himself—what Mac Donnell calls “Twain’ts.”

From 1870 to the present day, these cultural artifacts include novels inspired by Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, advertising misattributions, and even the earliest Twain-themed bookplates. Through humorous and thought-provoking examples, Mac Donnell reveals how these works—both sincere and exploitative—highlight Twain’s lasting influence and reflect the changing values and culture of the times in which they were created.

The Trouble Begins Series features renowned scholars who examine Twain’s legacy in the context of broader historical and contemporary themes.

The Mark Twain House & Museum is located at 351 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut.

Admission is free, and registration is encouraged. For more information, visit marktwainhouse.org or contact info@marktwainhouse.org.
