Transformations: Dialogues in Art and Material at browngrotta arts

A contemporary art exhibition exploring the expressive power of materials will be on view from May 9 through May 17, 2026 at browngrotta arts, 276 Ridgefield Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

Transformations: Dialogues in Art and Material brings together nearly three dozen international artists working across a wide range of mediums, including clay, silk, steel, bark, bamboo, seaweed, and horsehair. The exhibition examines how artists engage with materials as active collaborators, shaping and reimagining them to create meaningful, sensory experiences. Through this approach, the show highlights the concept of “material intelligence,” where artistic vision and technical understanding combine to transform raw matter into compelling works of art.

Visitors will encounter a diverse collection of sculptures, textiles, and mixed-media works that demonstrate how different artists can achieve strikingly varied results even when working with similar materials. The exhibition emphasizes the relationship between concept and craft, offering insight into how materials influence artistic outcomes.

The exhibition opens on May 9 from 11 am to 6 pm with an opening and artists’ reception. Additional viewing hours are May 10 from 11 am to 6 pm; May 11 through May 16 from 10 am to 5 pm; and May 17 from 11 am to 6 pm.
