The Story of Chocolate at Connecticut Museum of Culture and History

Chocolate lovers can explore the rich and surprising history of their favorite treat on Thursday, May 15 at 6:00 pm at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History in Hartford. Author and food historian Sarah Lohman will trace chocolate’s evolution from its origins as a ceremonial Mesoamerican drink to its place as a beloved global indulgence.
Guests will learn how cacao fruit is transformed into chocolate, the cultural and historical context of “Mexican Hot Chocolate,” and the origins of iconic treats like the chocolate bar. Lohman will also answer questions like whether milk or dark chocolate reigns supreme and how Hershey’s became a household name.
The evening includes a guided chocolate tasting. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
