The Sting at Westport Country Playhouse

The Westport Country Playhouse will present a special screening of the 1973 classic caper film The Sting in celebration of Robert Redford’s birthday. Set in 1936 Chicago, the story follows small-time grifter Johnny Hooker (Robert Redford) who teams up with seasoned con artist Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman) to avenge the murder of Hooker’s partner by mob boss Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw). Together, they execute an elaborate “long con” to swindle Lonnegan out of a fortune.

Renowned for its intricate plot, charismatic performances, and ragtime-inspired score by Marvin Hamlisch, The Sting won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It remains a quintessential example of the genre, delighting audiences with its clever twists and enduring charm.
