The Mountaintop at Playhouse on Park

An intimate and imaginative portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. unfolds in The Mountaintop, running March 4 through March 22, 2026, at Playhouse on Park, 244 Park Road, West Hartford, CT 06119. Written by Katori Hall and directed by Jamil A.C. Mangan, this Olivier Award-winning play offers a powerful theatrical experience inspired by the final night of Dr. King’s life.

Set on April 3, 1968, the story imagines an exhausted Dr. King in his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis after delivering one of his most memorable speeches. When a mysterious young maid named Camae brings room service, a humorous exchange evolves into a thought-provoking and deeply personal conversation about hopes, fears, destiny, and legacy. As secrets are revealed, King is compelled to confront profound truths about his future and impact. Hall’s work presents a moving and humanizing perspective on one of history’s most consequential leaders.

Preview performances take place Wednesday, March 4 at 7:30 pm and Thursday, March 5 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm. Regular performances run March 6 through March 22, with showtimes as follows: Fridays at 8 pm; Saturdays at 2 pm and 8 pm; Sundays at 2 pm, with talkbacks following matinee performances; Tuesdays at 2 pm; Wednesdays at 7:30 pm; and Thursdays at 7:30 pm.
